Forgive a stupid question, which I could probably find out with much reading…. But what firearm are they using? Is it a rifle rather than smoothbore? |

excellent brush work Only a part of the Jäger were armed with the rifle, the rest with a smoothbore carbine (shortened musket)- the Jäger here show very nicely the Austrian Jäger rifle |

So grateful to you both. I tended to assume rifles only for "British" and Associated units eg Hanoverians, KGL, Portuguese…. Now I think of it, obviously Prussians too! Now I wonder about how many other European armies used them….? Always like to see 2nd KGL Light with both rifles and smoothbore (if not a shortened carbine, that is interesting as well) as shown by Perrys and Brigade Miniatures Did not the Austrians experiment with a lethal air rifle? Or is that something I remember from the early 70s….and it is just my age? Finally apologies to Rafa, if I have high jacked his forum by asking about use of rifles in the Napoleonic Era. His painting. Imagine taking a pale grey uniform and turning it into this. If anyone has not seen his book yet…take a look |
