Four of us played a game recently with about 4000 pts per side. This was the third Sunday on the trot, and apart from evaporating the infantry and AT guns in the front line of trenches, breaking through on the bottom side, and wiping out all the Shermans, T34s, PT76 and BTR50P in the gap behind them the IDF had made heavy weather of it.Their 155mm SP artillery had knocked out some of the AA and Heavy mortar platoons in the rear trenches, but their commander on the far side, rather than get stuck in and force the issue, elected to stand off and shoot having had his Super Shermans,AMX and a couple of Ishermans knocked out. After the third evening we decided to call it a draw, though the Israelis could have pushed on and done serious damage if they'd gone for it I think.

Thanks v much. The mat is from Tinywargames. 12ft x 5ft. I wish I'd left it at 6ft even though the table is 5ft wide as I could have put stuff under it to make hills rather than plonking things on top.Cost was about £175.00 GBP off the top of my head. I think next we'll go for smaller forces in the hope that the gaps encourage mobility rather than a stand off and try and knock out the opposition blow by blow, even if that is what happens in real life.Once the IDF commander on the right flank lost a platoon of tanks his bottle went.

Hi Volleyfire, might you be interested in TMP link Linconshire to North Coventry can't be that far!

Volleyfire16 May 2017 3:43 a.m. PST

Hi Lslegions, I only just found this post of yours and the link doesn't appear to work unfortunately..

To paraphrase *Von Ted,
"Wheres the HOLY COW button!?"
The mat; it worked great.
As for "plonking things on top", you know I didnt even notice that until reading your comments.

It took me a bit to 'find' the Super Shermans.
Went back over slowly & spotted 'the boys' in the distance (top pt of the 1st/3rd pic).

I can certainly see how that would take more than a day to run.
I have to ask, 'roughly' about how many of ea. class of tanks did you guys have?

Volleyfire ref the broken link – try this one. link

Volleyfire06 Jun 2017 9:35 a.m. PST

From memory I think it was something like 4 x Shot, 6 xIshermans, 4 x AMX, 4 x Super Shermans, 6x Magach 2 and 3x Magach 3 plus 4x SP155mm artillery, 4x halftracks with 120mm mortars,2x halftracks with 20mm cannon and 8x Jeeps with RR and for the IDF.
The Egyptians had 6x IS3, 2x ZSU 57, 6x SU 100, 6x PT76, 7x BTR50P,
10x T34/85, 5x Sherman FL, and I think around 27x T54/55

Hi Lslegions, I would but unfortunately I work 7 days a week all year round and I can only get away when my OH is here to help some weekends so I can get about 4 hours off if lucky. Coventry is about 2 hours away, so just enough time to drive over, say 'Hello and Goodbye' and come straight home. Shame.

Hmmmmm how is V3 or V4 going to affect this, because this is tempting, much more so than NATO/ Warsaw Pact.

Nice battle set-up! We just did some Arab-Israeli wargames at "GaryCon", in Lake Geneva Wisconsin using the "Prowling Panzers!" game – "Jiradi Pass" and "Bir Lahfan" battles! And, at "Little Wars 2017" in Lombard, Illinois we ran the "Battle of "Abu Agheila" with Flames of War! with about 65 tanks in each of those games!

Hopefully, there will be a resurgence in FoW regarding Arab-Israeli wars. Frank Chadwick just released his new game, "Armies of October" a ruleset for the 1973 Yom Kippur War! I hope Battlefront comes out with some M60A3 tanks that can be used for the AI wars and Team Yankee!

We had some problems with using v.4 of the FoW rules to adapt some aspects to the Fate of the Nation. I understand that Battlefront is testing some adaptive rules in the UK possibly this coming weekend of June 10-11!!! Will be looking forward to see what comes out of that, since the Arab-Israeli and Vietnam periods have been orphaned, currently, and it's almost impossible to get any more vehicles, which I'm still acquiring, for these periods other than eBay!!! Game On . . .

Volleyfire08 Jun 2017 2:16 p.m. PST

That's interesting about the V4 adaptation, I will have to keep an eye out for news.
