The Battle of Huppy Case Yellow-27 May, 1940 Friday at Little Wars 9:00 am and 6:00 PM Using Jagdpanzer 2nd Edition With the Allied Armies trapped in an ever shrinking pocket around Calais and Dunkirk, plans were made to relieve them. Reducing the German bridgehead over the Somme River was the town of Huppy, from there a river crossing and into the town of Abbeville. Before them was a thinly stretched defensive line from the German 2nd Motorized Division. The Allied attack began at 6:00 a.m. after an hour's delay until the French artillery was ready. The British 1st Armoured Division had a long road march after debarkation, and was committed immediately. There had been little time to reconnoiter and information about German dispositions was sparse. To succeed, armored attacks would need to be combined with artillery and infantry but there were far too few troops and guns; Anglo-French co-operation would be far from adequate. link |
