I have read that at Shiloh various Louisiana Regiments wore blue and were fired upon by friendly Conf units. They turned their coats inside out to the white lining to avoid that mishap. I have looked but have never been able to determine what the uniform colors were (Crescent, Orleans Guard…) Were they gray trousers, blue jackets, gray kepis? No real idea other than guessing the jackets were dark blue. Any help would be appreciated! |

The Perry Confederate box has a colour drawing of this unit and state it was the Louisiana Orleans Guard (13th Louisiana) but gives Corinth for the friendly fire incident, the 6th Kentucky being named as one of the other units involved. The Perry drawing has them all in dark blue with a second sketch with the jacket inside out. The lining is a light grey with offwhite sleeves. |

I've painted a bunch of Louisiana regiments. You can find links to them on my blog: link At the time I worked pretty hard to figure out what their likely uniforms were. You can see I have a couple in dark blue, and one where one company is in dark blue and the rest gray. There were several friendly fire incidents in the Confederate army at Shiloh. You can read about them here: link |

As well there were many shades of Confederate grey – North Carolina imported uniforms from the UK and some of their blue-grey uniforms were a lot more blue than grey |
