I've not read widely on the man but, Robertson's book on Jackson is well written and I found it to be a good read. For a full treatment of the war; Shelby Foote wrote a three volume history. For me at least – it is one of the most enjoyable pieces of military history that I've ever had the good fortune to pick up. Couldn't recommend it to anyone more highly. |

If you're not up for a long book, instead of Battle Cry you would do well with Bruce Catton's The Civil War. |
