An interesting topic. Little known even among those who claim to be Eastern Front enthusiasts.

An interesting first-hand account of the intense infantry combat in the many small Red Army / Naval Infantry amphibious operations is: Blood on the Shores

I find first-hand accounts to be terribly interesting. But a bit of caution … as with most Russian accounts of the "Great Patriotic War" there is a bit of the over-the-top on the rah-rah great patriotic heroes successfully fighting against overwhelming odds again and again kind of thing.

Not really worse than most German memoirs of the endless hordes of mindless Russians. Just different.

If the right figures can be found, I would think it could be used to make for some interesting skirmish gaming scenarios.
