I agree with Mars. I have been using USPS for many years now and have never had a problem. Once, years ago I sold my collection of figures for over $3,000.00 USD and shipped it from CA. to FL I shipped in six boxes and they all disappeared in the mail and were lost. Fortunately I had insured them all and after 30 days was given the entire amount back from the USPS. They got their Postal Police on the case and discovered it was a postal employee who had been stealing packages. They tracked him down and he ended up in jail. Never had any other problems, even when shipping overseas except once to Italy a small package was lost. |

Agree that considering the ridiculous limitations places on it by lawmakers, the USPS does well. A comedian did a funny bit about the insanity of letter delivery. "Could you do this otherwise in real life: 'Hey, buddy. Here's 50 cents. Take this to San Francisco for me.'" |

Right on Mars! Overall good rates and very convenient. |
David Manley | 16 Apr 2017 11:21 p.m. PST |
Postal service decides to use a premium rate based purely on box appearance (and with tbe box having been cut up) despite box being wrapped in paper so its precious use not visually apparent) and customer not asking for that service. What kind of cockeyed postal service do you have over there that would make such a ridiculous thing a possibility?? |

USPS has their failings but unlike FEdex, they actually seem to be in the business of delivering packages. |

Certainly an interesting, though somewhat discouraging, thread. I have a question about the money order which seems to be the crux of shirleylyn's gripe with napthyme. It has been a long, long, time since I used a money order, but I seem to recall that the purchaser received , or at least could detach, a receipt copy of the MO which had a serial number on it. Wouldn't it be possible for the buyer of the MO to take this to the MO vendor to see if it had ever been redeemed and, if so, by whom, where, when, etc.? If it were me, I would have investigated this before I went on such a tear accusing someone of theft. And while non-redemption would not be conclusive proof that it was never received, it would be a good indicator. It may in fact be the case that the MO was never received, for whatever reason. This happens. It'd be hard to return something if you never got it in the first place. On the other hand, if it had been redeemed by napthyme, it would obviously be a bad idea to then reimburse him a second time. |

Over and done with, boys. Over and done. I took a deep breath, figured I was at fault, and as I still hav'nt gotten my MO back, I figure this guy has it, and as my life does'nt depend on $8 USDusd, and his seems to, I'll let it go. I certainly hope any of my customers don't think worse of me, and I am sorry to Bill and everyone who now thinks I'm a "bad trader" here abouts. I am at fault and I am sorry about that. Please note, that all proceeds from sales DO in fact, go to our town painting class for kids, and my main problem, was the simple fact that this guy KNEW that the money was going to this class, and again, I did indeed send him a postal money order, and I thought that would be the end of the issue. I also take offense by him saying the game books and cards were only in "ok condition". If that were the case, please send them back. I will give a full refund, over and above this $16 USD nonsense. I make the offer(again) knowing he will NOT return these items. H e got them for next to nothing. I have made many sale here. Not ONE complaint, until this. And I thank all the members that PM'ed me and said I should'nt worry and move on. I will and I have. Enjoy those books. Enjoy those cards. Enjoy that extra $16 USDusd. My husband is cleaning up his many hundreds of GROPOS miniatures and they will be put up for sale in the next week. Do bother to ask to buy them napthyme. |

To answer the question above, I do have the receipt and no, the MO has'nt be cashed yet. YET. The "crux" of my problem is NOT that he has the MO the problem here, is I am certain he has the MO. I have return address stickers on all my postage. I put these on, then I put a piece of scotch tape over it, so I know I would have had that letter returned by now. Now I get that I am the loser here. That fine. I also get that there is NO way I can prove he has that MO until he cashes it. Fine, too. But don't tell me I would'nt have gotten that letter returned to me by now. That, my friends, I will not agree with. I have a bit more confidence in the USPS then that. I believe that letter would have been back by now. Hey, I hope he's happy he took $16 USD from kids. That's what it comes down to. |
napthyme | 17 Apr 2017 3:26 p.m. PST |
All I got in the mail today was 3 bills that have to be paid. I expressly asked her NOT to send a MO, but to send the refund via paypal since that was the way she was paid. if you have the receipt then go demand your money back for it and stop waving it like a flag. Its likely been destroyed in the mail sorting machine. Why would I return anything? Ruddy hard enough to get $8.00 USD back, not holding by breath for another $15.00 USD plus proper return postage. I still don't know anything at all about any painting thingy for her or kids or little green men from mars. There was no mention of this in the ad. I really don't want to deal with miniatures that have already been painted. Have fun trying to get your big money out of those. |
awalesII | 17 Apr 2017 4:48 p.m. PST |
If I'm sitting on the jury; buyer wins. Preponderance of the evidence. Buyer and seller agree that $11 USD charged for shipping but picture (which seller does not dispute) shows $3 USD was paid in shipping. No evidence that COD was charged but reasonable that it could have been. Seller provides no evidence to counter anything. |
shirleylyn | 17 Apr 2017 8:52 p.m. PST |
Well, those miniatures are being stripped and primed. Again, good luck playing that game sans miniatures. And ya know what tough guy, just about EVERY MEMBER here knows my husband and I run a town painting class, and all sales we have made here, were for the rent on the hall to hold that class. And if you agree to send those items back, I will paypal you RIGHT NOW. One of my customers has said I should get those back, just so he could buy them and come here and say I am indeed a good trader. Like apples? How about those apples? And FYI, I have had 2 members see this farce, and PM me and ask that I send them the list of GROPOS miniatures I have BEFORE I post them, as they are interested. I highly doubt I will have any problems shifting these miniatures. Sucks to have a rule book and no toys to play with, huh? Theres always ebay… |

ok for those who don't know her husband is john lacour who's account is currently locked here. I have no idea why and don't really care to be honest. To Clear up to miss information about the condition of the books they are as follows. GROPOS Narn Regime Book crease down the center of the cover, second crease top left cover about 4 inches long. grade poor to fair. GROPOS Minbari Federation Book crease on lower right hand side of cover across the corner. Many other dings and bangs. grade Fair to fair Plus GROPOS Earth Alliance Book Best cover of the bunch save the big blob of red paint on the cover. At least I think its paint its very thick and stuck on like glue. grade Fair to good GROPOS Master Book has a permanent bend in it like it was top of a stack that was stored with the book half on half off the stack in a box. Bottom Right corner bent upward affecting half the thickness of the book. Grade fair to fair plus. GROPOS cards I have not counted these. Grade good to very good. As far as miniatures go for this game I have no need of them because I have not gamed anything since 2006. Yes there is always ebay, anyone who wants these can find these there once I can get them listed. They will be sold as is in the condition stated above. I did not buy these to play in the first place. She makes a lot of assumptions about me and accuses me of taking from kids while this week I paid an overdue water bill for a family so that there water would not be shut off. They have several young kids in the house hold. I feel this is a more important use a the money instead of a painting class that means nothing tomorrow. Also she has no idea how many kids that I keep feed on a monthly basis with my charity work. This too is more important then a painting class. Now to finally get back to things way more important then this train wreck. |

grtbrt | 20 Apr 2017 7:51 a.m. PST |
No, they don't specifically have a SWAT team – They do have a number of their police officers that receive yearly SWAT training as well as sniper and air assault(Helo insertion ) training . Usually they rely on other gov. agencies for the big guns . But they do have a number of their own crime labs and a law enforcement training academy. |

Joes Shop | 20 Apr 2017 11:03 a.m. PST |
They actually work very well with other agencies (local LE, DEA, FBI. etc.). The local unit in my area just helped bust a large drug cartel operation out of Puerto Rico that was sending drugs into MA inside Dolls through the mail. |

No idea what GROPOS is but that's fine GROPOS was Agents of Gaming version of ground combat in the Babylon 5 Universe released in the lated 90s. It was 10mm scale. It ended after AoG lost the license to Babylon 5 and was not picked up by Mongoose who did pick up the molds and license for the fleet action game. |
Foresightpaint | 23 Apr 2017 8:52 a.m. PST |
No idea what Babylon 5 is either. The sequel to Babylon 4? Does it include air assault posties? |
Henry Martini | 23 Apr 2017 4:56 p.m. PST |
It's not just posties, Foresightpainter. Scores of theoretically innocuous US government administrative agencies now have SWAT teams and police powers, e.g. Department of Education, Small Business Administration, Bureau of Land Management… even NASA! It's quite bizarre. |

Media mail offers a very inexpensive rate to ship certain materials. As far as I know, it is not normally subject to opening and inspection any more than any other type of mail. However, my local post office employees told me that USPS is inspecting media mail packages much more frequently lately, because it is being abused by sellers on ebay. I am a regular ebay seller and I do use it for books, etc, and I blame the scammers using it improperly for my packages being opened prior to delivery. |
williamb | 09 May 2017 8:24 p.m. PST |
The following is a quote from the U.S. Postal Service manual on media mail 2.2 Inspection of Contents Media Mail and Library Mail are not sealed against postal inspection. Regardless of physical closure, the mailing of articles at Media Mail or Library Mail prices constitutes consent by the mailer to postal inspection of the contents. Media mail is a discounted rate for specific types of items as noted in previous posts and is subject to inspection at any time per the regulations. First class and other higher cost shipping may not be opened and inspected per regulations. Since the mailer sent a package that did not conform to the other regulations regarding shipping items as media mail the postage was recalculated at the higher rate that should have been used in the first place. Postage due was charged to the recipient for the difference. He had the option of paying the postage due or refusing the package. The Postal Service has done nothing wrong in this case. Cards do not qualify as media mail and cannot be shipped as media mail with items that do quality The shipper is the one at fault for attempting to falsely use a lower shipping rate than the one she charged. The recipient has every right to request a refund for the postage due or if he had refused the package the full amount charged. As for the Postal Inspection Service (Postal Police), their job is to investigate any criminal activity involving the mail. This can include shipping drugs, using scams to defraud the elderly or others of their money, theft of mail. robbing post offices or postal employees on duty, and other crimes involving the use of the Postal Service. This past year Consumer Reports rated the Postal Service, FEDEX and UPS on the service they provide. UPS was third, FEDEX second, and the Postal Service first. |

I am not sure what is going on here. I do know that if you use a priority box at USPS they will charge the priority shipping. UPS, however, will ship any box, including USPS priority boxes and charge just for the shipping. Also it doesn't matter whether it is $8.00 USD, $80.00 USD or $.80 USD, if a person feels he or she is owed money, then its important to them, whatever the amount. |
