I'm new to the hobby & I was wondering about the size comparison for Imrie-Risley & other figures such as A Call to Arms, Accurate BMC, Men of 76, etc. (in 54mm ) Any help is greatly appreciated.

A Call to Arms figures tend to be a bit smaller and slighter of build, more 1/35th than 1/32nd (54mm). Armies in Plastic tend to be larger and beefier, more like 60mm.

IR are very slight / thin compared to all the other brands you listed.

The figures from BMC for the American War for Independence are a bit more bulky than those produced by either A Call To Arms or Accurate, and rather crude by comparison.

Once painted, however, the BMC AWI figures are not bad, although they may not mix in well in the same units with ACTA or Accurate.

The re-casts of the original "Sons of Liberty" figures by Marx are also pretty good, although a little smaller than BMC.

Thanks for all the imput.

Question to Joes Shop – so IR & A Call to Arms are the most compatible in size? The reason I ask is i'm thinking about collecting IR but not sure if they are similar.

Lucky1oldman: in my opinion, yes. I really like the IR kits as I started buying them / painting them as a teenager.

However, if you are going to game with them their retail price point makes them expensive; not a knock on them as they were never intended / marketed for gaming.

If you are going to game with 54's and want to work with 54mm metal I would strongly recommend All The Kings Men:

All figures appear 'larger' once they are painted and when gaming (from table height) the differences fade. That said, if I was gaming with IR's I would keep them in their own units and not mix them with other brands.

Can anyone point me to a thread or other resource that does a comparison for 54mm plastic AWIs?

I am brand new to this niche of our hobby and am looking at Armies in Plastic, LOD Enterprises, BMC and even some Marx recasts.

I plan (fingers crossed) on not being too picky with this new project. After a year painting 10mm ACW, I'm ready to do some quick paint jobs and get these guys on the table. I've seen some collections on YouTube and they are just gorgeous from afar.

Thanks!
