No painted miniatures!? This is barbaric! I will not play with you, sirs.

BattlerBritain10 Apr 2017 3:06 p.m. PST

What rules are they using?

Yes, that makes sense. The units are represented by the Military Symbols used for posting on maps, etc. They are big enough for many to see. And not fiddly etc. As we see, it's just not a game … it's business …

Nice use of colored ropes to demarcate the FEBA on each side.

Hmm. I'm surprised to see them standing on the board, though. I'd have expected them to lower an E-4 or E-5 on ropes to move the units.

Where is the bucket of dice?

ScoutJock10 Apr 2017 7:33 p.m. PST

That is one heck of a game mat!

Mitochondria10 Apr 2017 8:10 p.m. PST

Ah, the good old sand table MAPEX.

zoneofcontrol11 Apr 2017 6:31 a.m. PST

Hmmmm. Well lighted. Decent looking tables. Participants seem to partake of good hygiene. At which convention was this picture taken?

Why should they have all the fun ?!? However, I'm sure after the exercise is over the E-5s and below had to do "clean up" … evil grin

Volleyfire11 Apr 2017 8:08 a.m. PST

It looks like an exercise to take out all the NFL teams judging by the objectives you can read. Rams is one, Jets another. ATK 49ers anyone?

The ratio of men to women seems about right.

Have they never read any of the post here on TMP? Don't they know you can't simulate battles?

I'm curious about the one card that got blurred.

Stepman312 Apr 2017 7:17 a.m. PST

Supercilius Maximus13 Apr 2017 2:08 a.m. PST

Couldn't help noticing there's a Canadian in there telling them what they did wrong. And then apologising.

Still looking for the big girls*……

[ * not in any sexual sense, I hasten to add ]

@Supercilius: Second from the right in the back.

And obviously, no enlisted personnel get to play in these games, they'd make the officers look bad! evil grin

Supercilius Maximus15 Apr 2017 1:36 a.m. PST

Fair enough – I must have a different standard for "big girls" than you guys in the States.

A few years back, the CO of 1/Irish Guards admitted that he had to stop playing chess with one of his guardsmen, as they guy kept beating him and it wasn't doing his (the CO's) morale any good – nor, he suspected, that of his subordinates.

We were on a Big exercise at Bragg in the late '80s. In one of the orderly rooms in those old WWII style barracks. About 3-4 EMs were playing that old game – Shogun. Looked like they were having a good time. While waiting for whatever was coming up next, etc.

When I was in the Bde S4 Section at Benning. The Bn Cdr had me order the entire Mech Bde's vehicles from GHQ along with a Soviet MRR and Tank Rgt. So we could wargame our upcoming deployment to the NTC. Had Training Aids on Main Post make like a Vac-form terrain model. And the S2 Section painted and mounted the GHQ models in platoon strength on thick card board.

GHQ even called me to see if there was anything else they could do for us. I'm sure they made some good money on the deal, of course. evil grin
