Any opinions on the new double sided battle mat?
In "neophrene" (whatever that is).

It's neoprene, according to Battlefront, and only $90 USD! But I suspect that you knew that ……

About $140 USD in OZ. Plus P&P.

It'd want to be pretty nice for that price which is why I'm asking for opinions before I consider buying.

Basically a two sided mouse pad

I've got one on order but it's been nearly 2 months now and no sign of it yet.

Apparently they had to change supplier in China.

I'm actually not a fan of this material. It looks too "smooth." Reminds me of bad CGI/Green Screen. Too smooth, too flat, too uniform.

Same here.

I was about to pre-order one when I realized that I prefer to build my hills by putting books under a softer mat. This material won't work for that.

Im on the fence, I love neoprene mats, but Im concerned about this one being double sided as the face down side will likely pick up dirt/wear faster due to contact with the surface below. I suppose that can be mitigated if you place a sheet down underneath it first.

Joes Shop Supporting Member of TMP08 Apr 2017 9:18 a.m. PST

Good point: I am planning on using a sheet as well. The top side of my gaming table is painted/varnished wood but dust/dirt/wear can still be an issue…that is, if I ever get the Mat!

Put a tablecloth beneath the mat? ;-)

Go to a fabric store, gobs of felt at great prices !!!! I bought a 4x8 ft. mat of grass-green color for $11.00 USD USD. I'll be going back to get a brown mat soon

I also bought a piece of lt. blue light fabric with dots 1 inch apart which I use to play "Wooden Ships & Iron Men". The dots are just right for my 1/1200 ships.

Looking forward to acquiring one of these!
