link If Scotland votes to leave the United Kingdom and unites with Canda (as per the article) would Qubec demand it unites itself with France. All nations/provinces would be in the European Union and that would be great for them and then finally everyone gets what they want. But what about future alliances shaped by trading blocks? Would such a move be so monumental in world politics that it could be stopped before it would be allowed to happen? North America represented in a European Union, et all. Thoughts for a possible wargame? An interesting what if! |

My initial thoughts centre around the status of Qubec. Surely it would demand unity with France, and if successful then France would have a major foothold in North America (again). A traders paradise. If so, what dynamics would then exist between France and Germany, and the rest of the less-wealthy EU countries? Would there be a demand for Frexit? Would the USA, or China, or India impose trade tarrifs? Would emerging economies take the opportunity to exploit any signs of political weaknesses or advantages? All very interesting when thinking of future politics and the break down of the Old World Order. |

That is interesting. I'm curious if "Falklands-Norte" conflict will happen in Gibraltar, and the waters around there? The Spanish do seem to be pushing the envelope, which they may regret, if they step over the invisible line, like their southern cousins did. |

What would the US response be to aggression against a NATO member in the European theatre? |
Vintage Wargaming | 08 Apr 2017 4:57 a.m. PST |
That would certainly keep it in the EU then. And I thought C and A (op) closed down in the 1980s |

Given how the Falklands went, and our alliance with the UK, my guess is they might be considered not a "full member" of NATO, since they're probably not caught up on their 2% annual spending requirements, so the agreement is null and void. |

If Scotland became part of Canada all the Scottish kids would have to learn French … |

all the Scottish kids would have to learn French … Isn't that a time honored tradition? |

I think it's a brilliant idea for Scotland to join Canada. Just wish the rest of the UK would. Then I'd stand a better chance of getting a work permit for the bit of Canada the other side of the pond. |

Technically, EU is in North America. Check for Saint Pierre and Miquelon, the islands belonging to France,10-20 km off the coast of Newfoundland. I would welcome Scotland into Canada, although my preferences would be to be joined by the places like Barbados or Bahamas. |

I honestly feel Scotland and England need each other. Canada is a good country by itself! |

As tempting as a union with the wonderful Canada would be, I feel England needs us…..though perhaps doesn't deserve us. 87) Or, as W. H. Auden had it, "We are all here on earth to help others; what on earth the others are here for I don't know." |

Surely it would demand unity with France, and if successful then France would have a major foothold in North America (again). A traders paradise. Err, no. Quebec would get France's trading rights, so would lose ground. France would gain no rights at all. Maybe if France joined Quebec it would gain North American rights, but then it would lose EU ones. |

Canada would benefit from adding Maior Scotia to Nova Scotia… and vice-versa… but it's not likely to ever happen. Cute idea, though. My wife asked, "What about Scotland uniting with Ireland, or Norway?" Ha! |

However, if France did get Quebec, it would have access to 70% of the world's Maple Syrup production…. :( Actually, I like the idea of the UK and Canada becoming one. I'd be happy even if the capital was located in Canada. But hey, I'm all for the Anglosphere…:) |

"Thoughts for a possible wargame" my left nut. The UK wouldn't fight to keep Scotland. Canada wouldn't fight to take Scotland. Scotland doesn't need to fight to leave the UK. They just need to tick the right box. Who's supposed to be fighting whom in this "possible wargame"? (Edited to add) Maybe hostilities ensue when the UK tries to force Canada to accept Scotland…. |

Scots instead of French Canadians, now that's a toss up. Best to let you decide! |

Hmmm, that might be interesting, e.g. the naval action. Facing off with tugboats for both, off Greenland, or Iceland, since the actual naval vessels are too few, and vital to be used in a real skirmish. Bumper boats on the high seas, with proper bumper boats. Winner is the side that pushes the other out of the designated GPS box. Oh David Manley, we need rules for this…….. His Cod Wars rules might just work for this, and take that into account. One round, or best out of three? Pay Per View? |

For the life of me I can't think why this is a bad idea, assuming both Scotland and Canada are amenable. I'd be sad to think we were losing Scotland, but you never know, Anglo Scottish relations might actually improve if we were no longer part of the same country. |
