Interesting report and it looks like you had a lot of fun.

The actual action commenced at 3PM as Vandamme was not in position until then. In fact, even then his artillery was not fully deployed as it was still arriving.

I have become fascinated with this, the nearly forgotten last victory for his majesty. If you want a good read , try Clausewitz, he was there.

Best wishes,

Chris

Wow, that was an amazing game. And it went about fifty turns? How long did it take to play?

Interesting. I have C&C but have yet to play it – not a fan of blocks, so seeing yours makes me wonder…

tshryock06 Apr 2017 3:23 p.m. PST

@Scott – not entirely sure. I played it over several days, plus I was typing everything up as I went, which slowed things down. For the most part, each turn was taking about 10 minutes, maybe a bit longer for some pivotal moments. It moved pretty quickly, especially because I'm familiar with the rules (but still made mistakes).

@Marc – I, too, hate the blocks. My battlemat is actually marked off in two scales -- one is the regular CC sized board, so I can just put them right on the board as outlined in the scenarios; the other is super-sized -- just short of double in width and much deeper in depth. I thought the rules worked really well, even at this scale, though drawing two cards per turn was key to keep things moving.
And not having to mess with facings, move measures, shooting measures etc. kept the game focused on strategy and the narrative, not fractions of an inch and whether something is a flank attack or not.
