Just curious-
I played a turn or two of Fire and Fury a few years ago at HCON. A great looking game, and I remember that I really liked the movement mechanics. I was wondering if there would be anything stopping someone form converting Age of Eagles over to use single based brigades, like the ones used in Grande Armèe? It should be possible, theoretically, right?

You just need a way to mark formations on the bases

And a roster sheet to mark hits, divided into sections to indicate fresh, worn, and spent status. You could use casualty caps or rings for this, too, maybe color coded for unit status. So, formation and disorder markers, and a casualty system.

The tradeoff with F&F is that you get to remove stands rather than track using rosters or casualty caps versus the pain of moving a dozen tiny stands that represent one brigade. As the above posters point out, you can flip that choice and use another method to replace removal of stands with a large, single-based brigade.

You could note the strength of each unit with dice near it. Use diff. colored dice to note fresh, worn & spent status.

I seem to remember that Chris Ten Wolde said he got a better game of V&B by playing 3"x 1.5" half-Brigade bases. Using these as sabots smaller than the clunking standard GA/V&B base should allow variations in formation and battle strength to be expressed. Or so I'd imagine. Losses could still be removed, but maneouvring the Brigade would become less fiddly than F&F. Might this usefully split the difference?
