I read read Privateers had sometimes their own Marines on their Ship. In C.S Foresters Captain from Connecticut ,they describe some of the privateer's Marines have Green uniforms. Would Privateer's Have their Marines uniformed or would they be dressed just like the sailors? | | ColCampbell | 04 Apr 2017 11:42 a.m. PST

I think it would depend on the wealth of the privateer or his backers. Having "uniformed" Marines would tend to help to overawe a potential target ship. Jim | | MajorB | 04 Apr 2017 2:39 p.m. PST

If a commander was going to give any "marines" jackets it would have been easier for them to be all the same colour. That's probably about as "uniform" as they would get. | | 4D Jones | 05 Apr 2017 2:42 a.m. PST

 Can you refer me to your primary source(s) Major? | | MajorB | 05 Apr 2017 10:54 a.m. PST

Can you refer me to your primary source(s) Major? As for primary sources as to whether it is cheaper to buy a large lot of material all one colour or to buy lots of different colours, I refer you to your nearest tailor. Note that I did say "probably". | | 4D Jones | 06 Apr 2017 1:02 a.m. PST
