My friend wants to get into minis and play the old Striker miniature game by GDW. I'm more of a 28mm guy so I am not sure what kind of space infantry and armour there is available at 15mm.. Anybody have any suggestions?

Thanks.

Does Rafm in Canada still make the 15mm Traveller?

Tgunner01 Apr 2017 11:13 a.m. PST

Go look at Khurasan. He has some of the best stuff out there.

Check out GZG too. Jon is in the UK but he has the fastest shipping out there.

I think the Khurasan minis are somewhat better quality, but GZG's stuff is great too. Between the two you have a lot of choices. Also, some of GZG's stuff has strong 2300AD influences.

Coyotepunc and Hatshepsuut01 Apr 2017 11:18 a.m. PST

Rebel Minis also has some great stuff.

For Striker specifically, I'd lean towards GZG, they tend to carry that "Traveller" feel better than most.

For low tech colonial forces, get some modern day figures and paint them up differently.
I find French foreign legion from PP and Australians from Eureka make great scifi troopers.

Also, rather than building tanks from the ground up, just eyeball and assign some stats and guns.
Take my word for it, you'll be glad you did :)

Hope you have fun, Striker is a great game.

GZG and Brigade Models are the obvious choices. Huge ranges, some of them (especially the former) Traveller in all but name.

Check out Darkest Star too.

I thoroughly recommend all of them.

One more recommendation for Khurasan here, specifically the GOTA Clan from the Zantin Reconquest line (I love these guys, and no pesky face-painting – mostly):

I have to disagree on two levels with Weasel's comment:
"Also, rather than building tanks from the ground up, just eyeball and assign some stats and guns.
Take my word for it, you'll be glad you did :)"

First, designing vehicles and weapons is a lot of fun. Use a spreadsheet. Striker is the reason I'm good at Excel today.

Second, if you don't want to design your own stuff, you should be able to find plenty of vehicles and weapons designed according to Striker on the internet. If you just eyeball it, you run the risk of unbalanced equipment and equipment that doesn't make sense in the Traveller context.

Ok, talking Traveller.

For Imperial Marines, GZG's UNSC Hardsuits

I prefer GZG's Advanced Heavy Grav vehicles as their armor.

For Zhodani Troops Dark Star's Venturians.

They also make some of the best Vargr as well in their Garrhul figures.

Those Vargr look very GDWish.. Thanks.

Hey You01 Apr 2017 7:08 p.m. PST

And don't rule out using 6mm without changing base sizes or ranges. I seem to remember a couple guys from the yahoo group using 6mm. There is also a excel spreadsheet there for building your own vehicles if you have the inkling; like Oberlindes Sol LIC indicated above. Striker vehicle design can provide Traveller fun when no other players are to be found, or the weather is too bad to get out. :)

Weasel01 Apr 2017 7:35 p.m. PST

Well, certainly don't let me discourage you from designing some tanks :)
Read my comment as a suggestion rather than a dictate!

The three miniature manufacturers that have the best fit for Striker and Traveller are

1. Ground Zero Games link

2. Brigade Models link

3. Darkest Star Games link

All three have reasonable prices, excellent merchandise, and awesome customer service wink

Don't even waste your time or money on Khurasan.

Seems a bit 'dismissive'?
Not that I'm in any way invested in what the OP uses.
But I thought the minis were a valid option?

Dan 05501 Apr 2017 11:41 p.m. PST

I would also like to recommend RAFM's 15mm range

Hoho … Done some nosing through TMP Talk and I think I understand Blackstar's 'dismissive' comment now :-)

I spent a few months away from hobby sites that year and totally missed the 'fun'.

Still think they're cracking figs, mind …

And I've had good service from Khurasan

Weasel02 Apr 2017 10:15 a.m. PST

I guess the mini's question also depends on whether OP is actually interested in the Traveller "look" or not.

Buckeye AKA Darryl02 Apr 2017 1:56 p.m. PST

I would echo some of the suggestions already made. Darkest Star's 15mm range screams Fifth Frontier War, GZG figures could be used for anything from Swords Worlds to Solomani (although I think GZG are better suited for 2300AD or Tomorrow's War), and RAFM are of course the official Striker figures from back in the day, and to be honest, I believe their quality holds up decently well, plus, using the old Striker sheets, one can contact RAFM and have them sell you the specific quantities needed for each Striker unit. I cover that a bit here:

link

Both the RAFM and the GZG are a bit on the chunkier side, and the Darkest Star have the most realistic proportions (especially figure to weapon). All three ranges have good animation, and all three companies have excellent service to boot.

I have ordered from Khurasan a few times, great figures and good service.

I have always gotten great service from Khurasan and the product is fantastic. Just sayin'.

Weasel06 Apr 2017 2:44 p.m. PST

I've had no personal issue and don't want to get involved in any hubbub, I just didn't think the figures look very "Striker" :)

capncarp07 Apr 2017 9:30 p.m. PST

I was rummaging through the lead foothill (not much of a mountain) and I came across some very old Martian Metals 15mm Traveller figures, purchased back in the late 70's or early 80's. Not bad castings, I must say.
