Ah ha. Commonsense would have said follow your link before posting! You have answered my Qs!

Great research gone into this and I agree his horse (I thought it was Vexy) does now seem much browner, once stuffed, than the painting. I had understood it was the ravages of time, but then many a painting shows the Prince during the 100 days indeed riding a bay (as does your lower picture)

A tip. Much better depth of field if you close the shutter (a higher f number), but you need more light and a longer exposure. A sunny day and the cheapest little tripod would do.

Tripods make my so-so efforts look good.
