Considering the abuse the "How Many" topics have been receiving, I thought it best to give this one a different title.

Anyway, when you place a mail order for figures, how many to you usually buy? I ask because somebody in a recent thread seemed to have ordered one 28mm figure from a manufacturer. Since the postage will easily double the cost, this struck me as strange. Even when I buy "samples," I normally buy a package or half a dozen or so individuals.

Anything less than 20-30 isn't worth the P+P so if I only want a couple of bits from a particular company I'll wait till a show and then go round and get all the odds and ends.

Perry Russian Corps deal of 480 plastic figures! Just ordered 200 Hat Prussians and 75 Perry Prussian Cavalry.

Generally buy to complete a project, although will sometime buy a couple of old fantasy figures off ebay,

If I need some odd bits to finish a project l will buy individual figures or small packs, even if the P&P doubles the cost. Rather that than add to the useless lead pile.

I generally draw the line if the postage is more than the cost of the figures.

I order anywherefrom 5 to 30 models at a time… usually I try to at least exceed the s & h with the cost of figures.

I just bought 3 figures from Footsore to see how they were. But they were offering free P&p.
Ps- awesome figures that match up very nice with Crusader/BTD/Artizan dark age and very fast delivery!

Usually about a platoon sized order, sometimes less depending on the break point on postage cost.
I've just ordered some Empress figures from a local regional supplier which was rather small as I had a NZ$150 prezzy debit card to use up.

There's usually a minimum postal charge. I try to find things I 'need' to match that.

I normally buy about £30.00 GBP worth at a time. The reason is that Swiss customs applies duty and administration costs if the value of the parcel including postage is over CHF 60.

Often the duty and Vat is only about CHF 5 but the administration cost is CHF 20.

In other words, if I order £30.00 GBP worth of figures they cost £30.00 GBP plus postage and if I order £45.00 GBP worth they cost £45.00 GBP plus postage plus a total of £20.00 GBP customs charges.

I save up and order enough to get the free shipping. If it's just one or two figures, i will pick them up at conventions.

I usually get 20-30. Normally I'll purchase for a new force for skirmish gaming and that gives me enough to get going. I'll usually tack on extras to get any shipping discounts.

I'm putting a Foundry order together.
Free shipping is £80.00 GBP, which is about 7 packs. Some have 6 figures, some have 8.
The nice thing is that a purchase of about 40-60 figures have a reasonable shot at all getting done, as opposed to a massive "Oooo! Shiny!" purchase at a convention.

I bought a couple of vignette type packs from England for a project, but that is one of those outlier purchases. Typically, I buy enough to get free shipping from some businesses. From others I'll get 40-80 figures for particular projects. I haven't done the 300-600 figures purchases in years -- it is just overwhelming.

Just what I need.

So if that's one pack for $5 USD and $10 USD shipping so be it. It is folly to "justify" the shipping by wasting money on figures "I might use some day."

"Folly" is it?

Think 650 was the biggest. That js for 28mm. If we're talking 6mm itvwould be thousands in a purchase. I buy the project in one go.

I usually order in 'squad / section /platoon /' sized units. For example, I just placed an order with 1st Corps this morning: a 1:1 section of Russian Infantry, Command and a T-34/85.

For me, spending $10.00 USD shipping for $5.00 USD worth of figures IS Folly.
