"As with any historical subject as emotive as the Defence of Rorke's Drift, it is inevitable that myths will spring up, either as the result of a desire to hide the truth, or simply as a mis-representation of what actually happened. Rorke's Drift has suffered from this over the past, in both favourable and unfavourable ways. 'Zulu', the 1964 film starring Sir Stanley Baker as Chard and Sir Michael Caine as Bromhead, propagated and in some cases orignated many of these myths – although it goes without saying that the film does not suffer as a result!…"

WOTS was the first book I read about the Zulu War, after seeing 'that' film. Inspiring but now pretty dated, and much of what he wrote has been overturned by more recent historical research.

I liked Colonel Snook's book "Like wolves on the fold"

Still planning on building my next house as Rorke's Drift.

Problem, need a lot of land, and I also want to be on the Indian Reever (Bad combo, if money is an factor). And the concrete cast mealie bag perimeter? A King's ransom in RMC! (RMC = Ready Mix Concrete)

The Chapel/Storehouse design makes a great house. Nice elevated porch, large main room with a divider for your kitchen and a bedroom and bathroom. Plus a huge garage. Thatched roofing may worry your homeowner's carrier, so perhaps fake, carved/molded "thatch" from plaster like they do at Busch Gardens for decor?

The hospital? Guest rooms, or even rental units?

The buildings would be pretty easy to build and also cheap. CBS with molded stone where necessary. Typical Florida home, plus half ass stucco. It's the mealie bags! Probably a yard of cement per 2 feet of wall! My God! Call China, stat! Need that substandard grade that is toxic and radioactive!

How cool to have a Rorke's Drift home? When they come for me, I can defend with my Martini, Hitch style!

Who ants to move to Vero Beach, ON the river, in an efficiency unit of the Rorke's hospital? All of you! Kickstarter?
