I thought this was some interesting insight into GW's current direction: link |

I certainly like the way things are going. I'll definitely give 8th edition a shot if it is going to be more like AoS. |

Until they fix their ridiculous pricing it will continue to be a no-go for me. Some of the sets are incremental improvements in pricing, but conains units that are flat performance-wise. |
| 15mm and 28mm Fanatik | 31 Mar 2017 3:36 a.m. PST |
Agreed. 40K needs a drastic (revolutionary, not evolutionary) makeover a la' Fantasy did with AoS. 8th Edition should give it the re-invention it needs. |
Dominick | 31 Mar 2017 5:07 a.m. PST |
I went to other systems and never looked back. I have 30 15mm guys in powered armor for $30 USD, and I am deliriously happy. Now Whizkids came out with Pathfinder/D&D minis primed for $5 USD/2 figures that you pick. So $15 USD/mini or $2 USD/mini and the kids are scooping them up along with paints. There may be a new dawn, if Starfinder minis do well, for tabletop miniature combat |

"Some of the sets are incremental improvements in pricing, but conains units that are flat performance-wise." AoS has helped Fantasy a lot in this regard… I feel like I can take a fairly random assortment of units and still have a chance of winning. I choose to use some units just because I like the models. I hope that 8th edition 40k will fix many of the internal/external balance issues that exist in the codexes. |

Same here, but then GW released the Start Collecting! sets contain a great mix of models and are priced at 25-45% off. So I bought a bunch… |

And the usual suspects have already popped their heads to inform us about how pricey GW products are and how happy they are for non-buying GW products but using instead the such-and-such alternative figures in scale 1/555 that allow them buying fifty blobs of metal for just 25 cents! Great, guys. I feel really happy for you. However, it begs the question: why do you care to participate in a GW thread? Can't fathom your reasons. |

I traditionally participated because I've had a fist-full of crumpled dollars with their name on it for twenty years. Waiting for them to quit with the "let them eat cake" attitude that has most definitely earned them my vehemence. I now have "Necromunda" back, which means I can go to any FLGS, and maybe get in a 40Kish game I can enjoy. And from what I can tell, it's a pretty quick fix to make it into full-on Necromunda at home. Even though it's not like my Cawdor can't pass as chaos cultists anyway. The things I most loathed about WH40K 3rd edition on have been SPECIFICALLY addressed as 8th edition fixes. You could have knocked me over with a feather after reading that. So, really high prices or no, I am feeling like things might get back to the way they need to be. I'd like to put my grousing to rest, and I'm willing to give them a chance on this. |

My husband is super excited about them bringing back Blood Bowl. Tho quite way, I don't understand. This is the man who owns(at last count, about a year ago) 2,247 figures. And do you know what he says to me? "Well, at least I don't collect "sideline staff"(meaning coaches, cheerleaders, etc). But he does collect REF models… |
| Pictors Studio | 31 Mar 2017 12:10 p.m. PST |
That is a lot of Blood Bowl figures! How many teams is that? |

Okay this will make me comment. Well I would post link after link to Warpath stuff which is the same scale as GW's 40K but far, far cheaper. Or I would post link after link to King of War stuff which also cheaper than GW's stuff. Or I could post links to North Star Miniatures box sets that are also far cheaper to GW stuff and quite frankly better looking as well. There are other company out there who have cheaper miniatures and better miniatures as well. Oh and better rulesets as well. It is your money so you can give it to GW and get very little or you can give it to another company and get a lot. For those who do not like GW, which there are many, many reasons why to hate them we have decided to go to those other companies. Because when we would rather not have to pay GW prices. |
| basileus66 | 31 Mar 2017 1:19 p.m. PST |
"better" miniatures, Mithmee? In your humble opinion, I imagine. Or did someone make you Master of Taste and didn't pass the memo? By the way, the question stands: why does anyone that hate GW and find its prices so outrageous waste his time commenting on GW related threads? For the life of me, I can't understand it. And yes: I do give my money to whoever I please. As of late, to Front Rank. I just fell in love with its gorgeous new Napoleonics. |

He has every official team at least 3 times, by different companies. Plus he has a bunch of 'net teams(gnomes, Hobgoblins, forest folk, etc). Couple hundred teams. Plus his league(the thursday night hero's) has a card catolog of over 200 star players each with its own figure. Their league has been playing 2 "seasons" a years since 1992. They have a core of 18 players, and sometimes they get as many as 25. They are mostly friends who grew up playing role playing games since the late 1970's and now a days they just play wargames and Blood Bowl. |

Maybe we ( GW haters ) want to post other lines for the poor sob that only knows GW as a manufacturer. Let them know there are other miniature games out there that don't give them avg. figures at outrages prices. Now you don't have to wait for it! :) |
| alpha3six | 31 Mar 2017 9:30 p.m. PST |
I doubt there's a single person on TMP who plays 40k who also thinks the miniatures hobby begins and ends with GW. I think it's also probably untrue that the mythical 12 year old know-nothings who supposedly generate most of GW's sales are really that clueless. However, I get where this "evangelistic" mindset comes from, being an ex-ex-GW player and former troll myself, who posted angry anti GW rants on a variety of forums and even got a very polite message from Tim Huckelberry (GW's online community man way back in the day) asking me to stop. After I quit 40k the first time, I wanted to wake up the clueless deluded gamers who were still in GW's clutches, and to prove the world (but mainly to myself) how my taste in gaming had "evolved and matured". |

Except well intentioned or not, the "enlightened ones" who try to steer the wayward away from GW only come across as arrogant, proselytizing, condescending and self-righteous in their trolling ad nauseam anti-GW posts, which tend to have the exact opposite effect from their original intent. Here's a perfect example: Maybe we (GW haters) want to post other lines for the poor sob that only knows GW as a manufacturer |
| Mardaddy | 02 Apr 2017 8:54 a.m. PST |
How about it is a forum where anyone who registers with Bill can post on any of the threads, whether they are welcome or not? (nothing to say about the OP one way or they other.) |
| basileus66 | 02 Apr 2017 12:27 p.m. PST |
And who is forbidding posting, Mardaddy? Oh! Wait! Nobody! Yep… you are defending a non-issue. |
| Mardaddy | 02 Apr 2017 3:01 p.m. PST |
Now who is jumping here -- where did I mention or hint at "forbidding?" It is apparent that some here consider others "not welcome" to post. There is a HUGE language leap from there to being forbidden. You are being argumentative over no cause, basileus. |
| Centurio Prime | 03 Apr 2017 5:32 a.m. PST |
I would guess that about 90% of 40k/AoS players have never even heard of TMP. Here you have the players who cross over to/from historicals to 40k, I think. If you look at the huge attendance for the 30k and 40k events at Adepticon and NOVA (for example), BTW, you won't see many 12 year olds. You'll see mostly older guys with decent jobs who choose to spend their money on things they enjoy. And Mantic's mediocre to crappy miniatures aint it! Maybe 40k players should start commenting on EVERY thread on TMP about how this or that historical rules company is on the borderline of going out of business, how historical games are poorly supported, etc. How would that go over, I wonder. |
| Judge Doug | 03 Apr 2017 6:37 a.m. PST |
Now that the self-righteous anti-GW proselytizing is out of the way… I'm not familiar with the tournament scene, but the link in the OP seems very encouraging for those that do that sort of thing. The big change for GW, for me personally, was their renewed support for Strategy Battle Game. SBG is, I believe, the best ruleset GW has ever made. Rick Priestley and Alessio Cavatore birthed this glorious thing and Adam Troke is now in charge. They've been re-releasing out of production models, releasing new books, and releasing new models (and plastic terrain kits), and I have been gloriously happy. But speaking of the tournament scene, actually, GW will also be in attendance at the NOVA Open this year too! |
| Mithmee | 03 Apr 2017 6:04 p.m. PST |
"better" miniatures, Mithmee? In your humble opinion Yes that is my opinion as Centurio has is own. Mantic's mediocre to crappy miniatures aint it But show me where GW is making 40K Dwarves? Right they kill off the Squats over two decades ago. But Mantic has:
Oh and they don't look medicore at all. But everyone can have there own opinion. And who is forbidding posting, Mardaddy? Oh! Wait! Nobody! Actually Bill has and more than once, but it is his site. |
| Mithmee | 03 Apr 2017 6:08 p.m. PST |
Rick Priestley and Alessio Cavatore Oh and where are they now. Rick is over at Warlord Games Alessio has his own company now but was over at Mantic Games for a while. Oh and they are not the only old time GW game designers who are no longer with GW. Which is why the rulesets/games have taken such a downward trend ever since they left. |

"If you look at the huge attendance for the 30k and 40k events at Adepticon and NOVA (for example), BTW, you won't see many 12 year olds. " This was more true than I could believe. I went to Adepticon for the first time this year and there were almost no kids there. I'd guess the average age was probably about 28. I felt like one of the older people there but in the sense that I was in the upper 50% in terms of age, whereas at the HMGS cons I still feel like one of the kids. |

Oh and they are not the only old time GW game designers who are no longer with GW.Which is why the rulesets/games have taken such a downward trend ever since they left. Surprisingly a company that has been around for over 30 years has turnover. Hey Mithmee you love Mantic right? You know GW hired people from Mantic? James Hewitt, from Mantic, designed Gorechosen, Warhammer Quest Silver Tower, and Warhammer Quest Shadows Over Hammerhal. He also headed up relaunching Blood Bowl! WHAT A DOWNWARD TREND!!1!11@ |
