I'd like to let you know about an event I'm helping to organise for the Summer. It is a refight of the battle of Midway which is taking place on Saturday June 10th at the Tudor Arms pub in Slimbridge, Gloucestershire. The event is free but is being run as a fund raiser for the Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity so there is a "suggested donation" of £5.00 GBP for all participants. The game is currently scheduled to start at 0900 and to run on until 1800 – that said the venue is free for the whole day so no reason why we can't go on until last orders with the game or other games if the main event has drawn to a close. The pub is the regular meeting place for the Berkeley Vale wargames club (we meet there on Monday nights) and the food and beer is excellent so it should be a very happy occasion for all.

I'm starting to put together lists of commands and players, and the pub would like to get an idea of numbers as well, so if you want to come along and drive a task group please let me know.

Sounds interesting, David. We're doing something locally (in the States) or at least would like to. We're struggling a bit with rules. What rules do you plan to use?

I will try to come along, if only to spectate. Closer to the date I will let you if I am able to participate.

idontbelieveit, John Stanoch, who wrote the Blue Sky
rules, has run Midway a few times using the Blue
Sky Pacific supplement.

It works well, since all the action is air to air or
air to surface.

You can find TMP's article on the rules here:

There will also be a Midway game at RECON 2017 4-7 May Orlando FL. It will be a "Pearl Harbor to Midway Land-Sea-Air Campaign". We will have to compare notes after David. And good on you for doing it as a fund raiser as well for a very worthy cause.

Good to hear that this amazing victory is getting some commemoration this anniversary.

HMGS-Midwest has done a double-blind version of Midway 75 at Trinity College, Bannockburn, IL. We used eight classrooms at the college – three Japanese Task Forces, two USA plus Midway Island. We had 40 of our members participate. We offered this free to members as a thank you for their interest. Used Midway 42 boardgame by GDW as a base for rules and then adjusted them as needed. Searches on acetate hex grids. When they found something, one of the judges called the appropriate task force on their designated cell phone and acted out what the agitated observer saw – kind of like the movie! We had to kriegspiel a bit at the end because we allowed free set up and they set up the farthest possible distance away.

WE used my collection of Axis and Allies War at Sea minis – had every ship and plane that participated in the real battle represented – 1 to 1 scale.

The big news is that we have been invited by the Museum of the Sailor [right at the main gate to Great Lakes Naval Base – the ONLY boot camp for the Navy in the country] to come and have our members repeat the game against the Surface Warfare Staff! We will keep you posted as we get closer.

Oh come on Steve, not fair! How did the game turn out? Don't leave us hanging!
