I feel obligated to mention that the familiar, long-horned, shaggy red-haired Highland cattle of today's postcards and pastures are in fact a recentish addition to the Scottish landscape. In the days before the Victorians, Highland cattle were of a smaller, black species since largely displaced. Just a thought for those seeking purity in their games or dioramas.

But these ARE cool figures, and I'd have a hard time resisting using them even when period inappropriate! Such a unique look. If you painted them in other colors or patterns, you could also make interesting fantasy/prehistoric cattle from these.
