Kings or emperors of the 19th century, which is your favourite for any criteria you care to apply ?

Most interesting, most influential, most intriguing, most brutal, most enlightened.

Give your suggestions to make it into the poll, along with a line or two why.

I've always had a soft spot for Emperor Norton – "certainly one of the most genial and harmless of the breed."

While I'm not Bonaparteist, you can't deny he had a massive influence on the world that is still felt today. And I'm not anti Bonaparteist either.

Also George III I have a soft spot for inbred mad kings

Napoleon III — I am so grateful to live after the French Second Empire and its invention of good cooking!

I find Alexander the 1st to be quite a fascinating character and it's hard to deny the impact Napoleon had in the transition between the old world and the new, regardless of which side of the fence you think he falls down on.

Shaka Zulu. Tougher and far more interesting than all these pampered stereotyped Europeans.

With the Dowager Empress Cixi as a close second.

Napoleon I would cry himself to sleep if he knew people preferred his nephew over him!

Napoleon III and the "widow of windsor", Queen Victoria.
