The just released "command cards"….. aghh. Information should have been in the newly released books…. which are proven incomplete based upon the growing FAQ list of rulings on BF's own forums. I expect more "on the fence" V3.0 players to jump into other non-FOW rule sets now as the "card game" look expands with V4.0 FOW. New players maybe, but the core veterans around here are questioning any more FOW expansion of armies and one even burned his V4.0 free books in the metal trash can. Cannot see "the cards" with any upright TO organizing a tourney. Veteran and seasoned TO's are refusing to run future V4.0 tourney events, even stating so on the BF forums. Would you like to be a player seeing cards pulled from unknown decks on you? A TO forced to oversee a growing card collection? Forced to know all the possible cards in future releases…. $$$ for cards like a form of "gamer drugs". Seeing a "card hawker" at the door entrance to future FOW tourneys. …Psst… senior, you have the latest Tiger I special super duper ace card upgrade for ROF4? Secret cards, "limited release" sets premium priced, or digital only accessed cards, which force you to purchase (rent) your access to BF server farm coming to you, the FOW V4.0 gamer very soon. That went over big with the V3.0 Barbarossa book crowd in past years…..half the available lists on digital version platform only… and not in the printed book. Veteran FOW gamers still remember BF for that episode. With V4.0, all the $$$ spent on former digital "forces" is questionable…. since the new V4.0 platform isn't available…. maybe a year or two. Eastern front action…. a year or two more, then all the $$ to upgrade for EW and LW. Just not worth the scare hobby funds…. V3.0 works and is generally complete for most theaters, especially for scenario gaming, and not just points to points match-ups. Glad I have a extra "mint" V3.0 MRB on the bookshelf purchased very cheap. Now this thirteen year gamer is firmly in the V3.0 "dark side camp" for the near term. |

Well that was a stream of consciousness! The just released "command cards"….. aghh. Information should have been in the newly released books…which are proven incomplete This is all that really needs to be said about the new books. Despite really like the actual game play of V4 and thinking the new plastic kits are some of the best 1/100 scale tanks ever made (perhaps even the best), I would not recommend anyone buy the army books or command cards or any of that stuff. I don't think this is a sign that things will go poorly for Battlefront though. The cheaper used copies of North Africa from V2 (which is a much better option for V4 than the V4 books) are all being snapped up. So if the demand is there for those, I'm guessing Battlefront is probably going to sell a good amount of the new tank kits. Which is where their money is really made. I also imagine that the sales of Eastern Front and North Africa in their FOW Digital app have also gone up, if the culling of the used book store sites and ebay are anything to go by, the demand for the content is there. |

I find it frustrating that the MW rulebook does not have all the rules one would need. Example, what rules on obstacles like barbed wire? I know the wire was used in the desert. People have mentioned about transports for various units. All that would be resolved on cards? REALLY? I get it that BF wants to the do the TY treatment for minefields, but what about some basic items here, guys? I have both the Desert Rats and Afrika Korps books, but I think that this is a bad move for BF to do this piecemeal the stuff over the year. Maybe it has to do with their production schedule? I think the AFRIKA book will serve me nicely at this point. |
