I'm planning a trip to London next April and was hoping to catch Salute while I was there. Does anyone know the 2018 show date? I was unable to find it on the website.

Thanks

My suggestion is to go to the source: coordinator@salute.co.uk

Salute will be an exceedingly busy show.

If you had any flexibility come over in May instead.

Carronade in Scotland is a big show but you will still be able to visit many of the big traders and even have a conversation with them.

Nothing against Salute other than it is so busy you can't hear yourself think.

Jim, Carronade is certainly on the list of things that I would like to do, but unfortunately this trip is scheduled for other reasons and trying to hit the show on that weekend.

Fair enough rampantlion, if it has to be Salute then so be it.

You'll have already heard good advice for taking on Salute; pre-order your ticket, pre-order your intended purchases, wear comfy shoes, carry your backpack, catch a pick-up game if you can, shower before you go and try not to stand too close to everyone, escape while you have energy left.

Also, if you can, try and get to Carronade, Claymore or Vapnartak during other trips. All big shows but easier on your ears and elbows. Crisis in Antwerp is pretty good too.

Bring your own refreshments as the prices at the food and drink outlets at Excel are even worse than the queues.

and check the train network is working – thisd year Custom House is closed for a refurb

DHautpol24 Mar 2017 6:49 a.m. PST

Custom House is closed as part of the CrossRail upgrades but it appears that the next station Prince Regent is open. Custom House and Prince Regent are, effectively, ExCel West and ExCel East respectively.

Please note, in addition to Salute, 22 April is the last day of the London Marathon show at ExCel, where runners need to collect their race numbers/goody bags. With one station out of commission it will be busy.

Can you imagine how real generals would have fared if they had the same attitude as some of us wargamers seem to have about getting to Salute?

Wellington: "I was doing pretty well at Waterloo, but once those Austrians turned up the whole battlefield became, well, like really, really crowded and frankly I just didn't like it any more. So, I decided to go home early and watch a DVD"

Guderian: "I know der Fuhrer was really keen on this whole 1,000 year reich malarky, and wanted me to invade France and get the whole ball rolling – but honestly, have you seen that Maginot Line? Utterly impossible! So, I told him "no", and that was the end of it. Instead I'm just off to my family hunting lodge in the Ardennes to spend a few weeks reading some second hand books I picked up on eBay"

Churchill: "Look, I'm sure the Spitfire and the Hurricane would have been fine aeroplanes, but have you seen the cost! I thought all along that the RAF would be much better off just repairing some of those Sopwith Camels from the 1910's and 1920's, soaking them in turps and diesel for a few days to clean the paint off, scrubbing them with a toothbrush and then respraying them in some modern camouflage – I'm sure they'll looks just fine from 12,000 feet away once the Luftwaffe start this air assault they've been promising.. and even though this may take thousands of man hours and look a bit rough from close-up, just think of the money we will have saved eh!"
