.. I can sculpt tentacles!

Mutant Q18 Mar 2017 9:28 a.m. PST

I'm a cosmic nihilist who enjoys watching humanity squirm as we learn just how insignificant we truly is when compared to the rest of the universe.

Roderick Robertson Fezian18 Mar 2017 9:36 a.m. PST

Carrying high-powered military ordnance is considered "normal", and even "wimpy".

Wackmole918 Mar 2017 10:01 a.m. PST

Because it gives life/form to the the dark places in my mind.

Exactly! It's all about the tentacles.

ChrisBrantley18 Mar 2017 10:19 a.m. PST

The answer to the question is in this book…lets look and….gibber, gibber, drool, drool.

CAPTAIN BEEFHEART18 Mar 2017 10:27 a.m. PST

"I'm a cosmic nihilist…."….hmmph…I used to be into nihilism….but that all seems so pointless now…

War Panda18 Mar 2017 12:14 p.m. PST

I'm a sucker for tentacles myself

Tekawiz18 Mar 2017 2:17 p.m. PST

for me it's more about the story and how weird things can get versus the survival of the characters.

GarrisonMiniatures18 Mar 2017 2:45 p.m. PST

If it's Cthulu the characters don't exactly survive unless they have been… changed.

Coyotepunc and Hatshepsuut18 Mar 2017 3:40 p.m. PST

Because Nyarlathotep can be such an assuming guy… just your Joe Average middle eastern guy, maybe a little grey-skinned, but the he breaks out the Mind-Wrenching Cosmic Power and turns people into clay.

daler240D18 Mar 2017 3:59 p.m. PST

never understood how one gamed madness.

It justifies carrying really cool emergency gear in the trunk of your car.

Let us not forget that Chaosium's Call of Cthulhu RPG was a beautiful thing.

Tentacles, monsters and madness. So much more heroic than mere dragons and treasure hunting…

JimSelzer19 Mar 2017 2:40 p.m. PST

because no one ever says the eyes aren't the right color or that shade of flesh is off

Because it's such a pleasant surprise when, once in a while, my character survives a game and still has some SAN points.

I kind of like role-playing insanity. There are a couple of people I worked for long ago that I use as a basis for an insane character.

As the Game Master, if the players push for more description, you can always say "The Thing cannot be described – there is no language for such abysms of shrieking and immemorial lunacy, such eldritch contradictions of all matter, force, and cosmic order."

Or if the players push for more description, you can also say "it appears to be an eldritch contradiction of all matter, force, and cosmic order, the closer examination of which causes you to lose 2 Sanity."
