I'd like to know how the Membership Meeting went. Any discussion regarding Historicin 2018? |

The Host for all three cons in 2018. Other site fell through. |

Sounds like the Host is back up and running, i guess at some stage people will relay how the room refurbishment is going? I will have to see which airport is best for getting to the Host. :) |

The ultimate goal is to have the three HMGS East conventions held in three different locations, but it may take a while to find acceptable sites. |
TheKing30 | 18 Mar 2017 6:05 a.m. PST |
I think splitting up the sites is a good idea. I'd like to see Fall In move closer to Gettysburg and Cold Wars move into April and further down South. Time will tell. |

I'm not really sure what is gained by moving from the best performing location. Almost without exception, every move has been a debacle |

In part because we are just another data center, casino, or what have you from having NO back up sites! |

Another hotel is going up to the East of the Host. Soon there will be so much hotel space, we can sleep elsewhere and just use the gaming rooms. C |

i guess at some stage people will relay how the room refurbishment is going? The good: Our room seems to have been partially done. The air unit was new and all digital. We did have a flat screen TV. The air smelled like cleaning supplies and did not smell musty. Probably a good sign. The bad: The tub did need to be resurfaced as it was peeling a bit. Our door was partially kicked in for some reason. Made it hard sometimes to open the door. Other stuff: Today, I noted a bucket in the hall in the main entry way. Melting snow has revealed an old leak I think. The outside court yard walls etc, seems to have been freshly painted. No sign of peeling paint unlike last year. The amenities seem to have been compacted. There is still the bar and restaurants. The food vendor across from the hotel registration counter (outside the bar) still served up pokr as well as burritos. They had pizza and such for Saturday lunch. The "deli" downstairs was compacted into a single counter. They served the usual as well as pretzels pizza. The line there was always long. Both vendors were under staffed at critical times. The one thing I saw that went missing was the ice cream. no ice cream service outside the bar area. Food was o the usual standard with a "comfort" quality. The host still has some problems but it is moving in the right direction. |

They had ice cream at the downstairs food station Saturday night. |

One gripe: the concessions stand prices were substantially higher. Soft pretzel for $4.50 USD????? Ouch! |
cturnitsa | 19 Mar 2017 4:30 p.m. PST |
If that soft pretzel had come from Emperor's Press, it would have cost $6.50 USD, but would have included 15mm charts. |

I hope they are using this time to come up with a long-term plan for all 3 conventions post-2018. |
Dynaman8789 | 19 Mar 2017 7:18 p.m. PST |
They have been trying to come up with a long term plan for years – it is tough to do when the requirements are basically "we need something that costs 5x but we are only able to afford x" |

Did they announce the dates for Cold Wars 18? On the YM site, Historicon 18 is listed as 12-15 July 2018. Did they stay the same? |

Any news on pricing for 2018 Historicon ? Are renovations going to drive prices up? |
Dervel | 20 Mar 2017 6:37 a.m. PST |
Boiler Truck was gone…. So was the heat in the Lampeter room. Everywhere else was pretty much too hot in my opinion. Food and Drink prices were substantially higher, people started buying from the vending machines, which suddenly had out of order signs placed on them. The restaurant staff has to go to the other side of the building to run your credit card (same as fall in)…. I saw no significant changes, its still the Host, as a gaming location it was just fine. I have not stayed in a room there for a few years, so I cannot comment on any changes to them. Oh, and more on topic… I agree three locations would certainly spread the word better than on or two. The Host is best suited for Fall In inmho (the facility is best suited due to outside temps and weather)… without significant improvements it cannot cool a summer event, and the weather is always a crap shoot for Cold Wars. Historicon should be North if possible (Summer)… Cold Wars would be better suited in Virginia than a Summer event. |

The dates on the Host form for Cold Wars 2018 are the 15th through the 18th. |

"Any news on pricing for 2018 Historicon ? Are renovations going to drive prices up?" $119 USD per night as discussed at the members meeting. Of course there are also (2) new hotels on either side of the Host. (2nd is nearly finished) TRU |

Everywhere else was pretty much too hot in my opinion. This is my main concern. Some don't do well in the heat, and places like the Marietta room get stiflingly hot even during early November or March. I cannot imagine what they'd be like in July. I'm going to have to bring a fan in 2018 and ask for a table by an outlet. |
