Read an article about one of the factories where the Russian T-34 was produced. It was designed by an American firm and had 4000 custom machine tools and an assembly line. Part of the drop in costs was due to the cost of the machine tools being amortized (divided) by the number of tanks produced.

The Germans were very proud that the M-VI Tiger I was not mass produced. For the 1500 or so produced there was 300 changes incorporated (or 1 change for every 5 tanks produced). The Tiger would be assembled at one place in the factory and the workers would go from tank to tank to do the work. As a rough estimate if it had been mass produced as many as 3 times as many could have been produced. Wonder what 3000 more Tiger 1 tanks could have done.

They would have needed fuel. Fortunately everything or nearly so with the nazi was stupid. Self intoxicated with their misplaced superiority.
What can you expect of a system who uses the last train from Britanny before encirclement to send people to camp instead of evacuating own troops?

That is what happens when a power mad despot with his flunkies is supported by big business. Of course this would never happen again.

The Battle of Raseiniai of was an interesting read. I recall something of it years ago, but this is the first time I have actually had the chance to read about it.
