First time trying to post a picture. This is a Byzantine stratiotai cavalryman in 28mm. link |

I'm getting the following note: As soon as Perris Cooley puts the camera down, we may have an album to view. There are shaded out photos below, but none are of figures. Grelber |

Cool. What era? What we call byzantine covers a lot of years. |

This would be for the mid to later period of the Empire, but could be also a Thematic cavalryman or member of the personal retinues of the Dynatoi (great landowners like the Phocas, Ducas, or Comnenii clans). I am also doing a couple Byzantine Horse archers, another Thematic Kavallarioi, and a Norman knight in the Latinikon. |

Looks nice! Lamellar armor, helmet and boots it looks like, so not heavy, heavy cavalry like klibanophoroi. Long ago, I read Arnold Toynbee's book, Constantine Porphyrogenitus and His World, and came away with a preference for the thematic troops, as opposed to elite units of the tagmata stationed in Constantinople. I think he would work well for that sort of thing. Grelber (Who has never been brave enough to try posting a picture, but is encouraged by your eventual success) |

Thanks Grelber! I sort of pictured him as a thematic type myself. I am working on about 5 other figures as well. Two mounted archer kavallarioi one with lamellar and one with padded coat. I might try a kataphraktoi too at some point. I have another sculpt I did a while back that matches the Angus McBride tagmatic katapraktoi in the first Osprey Byzantine book. |
