I finally got around to write a blog post on my impressions of the Warlord Games French Line Infantry that I picked up at the sprue sale some months ago.

Overall I was happy with the Fusiliers, while I'm less convinced by the flank company model. But for the price they definitely did the job of filling in the gaps in my Fusilier units.

Very nice! The sculpt is early period isn't it?

Thanks! I'm new to the period, but as far as I understand the French switch from bicorn to shakos was in 1806-7, and the Bardin uniform (which has a different shako style for example) saw wide use in 1813, so these are suitable for the period inbetween those dates, even though some would keep using old gear later than the official introduction year.

Magnificent painting!

Very nice paintwork! The size comparison is helpful as well. Perry are quite a lot smaller .

Wish we could see more of the size comparisons you showed here. Invaluable.

Amused that you thought these were a rushed job. They impressed me!

Alternative Armies figure? All I can find is fantasy stuff, some vaguely relating to Napoleonic Era. He looks nice, if massive!

It looks like you could use Front Rank elites to supplement the Warlord games plastics.

I assume the Front Rank command packs might also work. I am not a fan of Warlord metal command figures.

I'm happy you liked them!

deadhead: well, comparatively rushed. After all, when I put them next to the Perry one for a comparison, I think it's a bit dishonest to not mention that the Perry one probably got more attention when I painted it. Otherwise it can be a bit misleading.

Hans: actually, I have several Front Rank NCOs for both my voltigeurs and fusiliers, and they work pretty well. I'll probably go for a Perry NCO blister as well at some time, as the Front Rank ones are nice, but a tad monotone (they all have the same pose, pointing forward, but with different hats etc.)

I find the domed base of the Warlord figures also makes them look bigger than the flat based Perry figures.
