He'll do very nicely as a dismounted staff officer, but for me, he doesn't seem right without his trademark half-boots.

Must agree. The strange thing is their text suggests that was their intention;

"We've chosen to depict him in the ‘campaign dress' he adopted during his time in India and wore throughout the Peninsular Campaign, the blue coat, white trousers and tall riding boots most often associated with him"

Er, they did not. He is a stout little chap, his telescope is sadly bent (even if the painting of the lens is clever) and I never like the one handed use of the instrument…I know the casting requires that, but it looks wrong. Finally, not sure I can recall seeing him with a white fringed bicorne.

All that is wrong is that he does not look much like DoW…..

Well spotted Mr D.

That telescope is bent. You normally focus a telescope with two hands and this chap looks more like poor old Harold of Hastings fame.

Has he pinched Marshall Neys hat?

Great painting but this is not the Duke of the paintings I have seen.

Best wishes,

Chris
