Might as well let the People decide: Joan Jett (as herself or with the Runaways), what's you favorite song of hers? If any. As I play a collection today, I'm torn between Fake Friends, Backlash, Cherry Bomb, Light of Day, Good Music, Bad Reputation, Crimson and Clover -- all I know is it ain't I Love Rock and Roll.

Cerdic12 Mar 2017 11:43 p.m. PST

I only know the one. I think it was her only hit in Britain?

Mako1113 Mar 2017 1:14 a.m. PST

Rock and Roll is really good, as is "I hate myself for loving you".

Just watched some of her videos on Youtube. Lots of good nostalgic stuff there.

I think I saw her with "The Runaways" in the late '70s at the Roundhouse in Camden.

Can't remember much about it….

Not surprisingly! wink

Didn't she do a version of "Little Drummer Boy"?

Bad Reputation.
The kids think she is having a "bad vacation" and is upset about it. Good stuff

"I Love You Love"..

The video is fun also…

Know some folks that know her and have worked with her. They say she's a great performer, but a b***** (rhymes with 'witch") as an actual person….

shirleylyn13 Mar 2017 5:12 a.m. PST

Greg Graffin from Bad Religion said she is quite the b****.

Gotta give the nod to Cherry Bomb.

She sat behind me in school for a class. I hate myself for loving you

I've seen her live and appreciate her music but I have no favorite. I guess I don't like her enough to have one.

Yes, Joan did a rockin' version of Little Drummer Boy that belongs on any Christmas music collection!

Maybe Greg Graffin is mad because she turned him down for a date?

Joan has a rep, or had a rep, for being very gracious toward fans, at least. I remember her sitting in a tour bus after a show in Austin in about 1993 or 1994, patiently signing autographs and records for people who'd hung around after the show, wrapped in a big coat against the cold. Still got those! And a year or two later, she signed the sole of one of my bagpipe chanters!

On the other side, Jackie Fox of the Runaways gave a story to a reporter (Rolling Stone?) a couple of years ago, widely reproduced -- try Huffington Report -- that shows young Joan in a very bad light, as being an abusive bandmate who hazed her and did nothing when creepy "manager" Kim Fowley actually raped Jackie at a party in the presence of other Runaways. So there's that (alleged, but probably true) ugly episode that stains her legacy as a pioneer for women in rock.

This. Because, reasons.

I Joan Jett and the Blackhearts open for KISS back in 19-non-of-your-business. Well, OK, I can't remember exactly when, but maybe Behind the Mask tour? Googling the facts seems like a lot of effort and a completely superfluous act with respect to asserting things on the Internet.

They played this and this, too. Great concert.

shirleylyn13 Mar 2017 5:25 p.m. PST

Do you mean "unmasked" tour?

Personal logo etotheipi Sponsoring Member of TMP13 Mar 2017 5:28 p.m. PST

Unmasked … yeah, that sounds right.

Sorry, got to go with "I Love R & R." Actually any video when she was wearing black leather!

Personal logo piper909 Supporting Member of TMP13 Mar 2017 8:55 p.m. PST

Yeah, the leather suit. Joan owes a major debt to Suzi Quatro for that. But the red Converse Chuck Taylor hi-tops were all her own!

Hello, daddy. Hello, mom.
I'm your ch-ch-ch-cherry bomb!
Hello world! I'm your wild girl.
I'm your ch-ch-ch-cherry bomb!

I think the Runaways version is the classic (made it into the "Guardians of the Galaxy" soundtrack) but she did cover it solo as well. Saw her live at a small hall at UCLA in …. mmm … 1984 I think. The opening band was Social Distortion, back when they only had the Mommy's Little Monster record.

COL Scott ret14 Mar 2017 3:52 p.m. PST

I like her music with no particular favorite. Saw her when she opened for Hall and Oates, it was right when I LR&R came out so she had to have another band open for her. Much of the audience left after her show
