Four of the Gentlemen Wargamers gathered in the workshop yesterday to test my "Pirates of the Konkan Coast" scenario for this year's convention of the Seven Years War Association. The action played out in 14 turns spread over five hours (minus maybe an hour for a dinner break consisting of hostess Mary's beef stew and dinner rolls, followed by a scrumptious sachertorte donated by one of the players) and climaxed with a dramatic ending in the last turn.

You can see a set of pictures on my Flickr page; click on the photos see the captions describing the action:

I'll be running the game at least twice at the convention, on Friday and Saturday. If you'd like to join in, you can download the "Away Boarders" rules from my website, but I'll be giving my usual 10-minute overview at the table before the game anyway:

Even if you're not playing, stop by the table and say "hi" or join me in the lounge between games or after hours.

(I should mention that the whimsical scenario name in the Subject line is not my own, but is provided courtesy of one of the Gentlemen Wargamers who, with their usual irreverent humor, insist on referring to the rules not by their actual name but as "Paper Ships and Portly Men".)

See you at the con!

looks very nice! This is a period and a region that always fascinates me. I dearly wish that I could grab my keris and turban and get stuck in against the Western interlopers :)

A great looking, great playing naval game and a sachertorte sounds about as close to perfect as I can imagine!

Ken,

Do you have the stats for the dhows -and other ships?

Many thanks.

I needed those to run the game, of course, but they're just provisional for now. There may be a few tweaks before I'm happy with them. As always, I'll post the ship displays on the website when I release the models – which may be a while since it takes much longer to do the instructions for a kit than it does to design it. They wouldn't do anyone any good until the kits are released anyway since, as far as I know, there's no other source for wargaming models of ghurabs and gallivats.

I look forward in anticipation.
