After the success of the first campaign, Oliver James launches a new one with this time the mounted knights in 28mm, always for the Renaissance.

They're metal.

Nope. The Perry make wonderfull Men At Arms (aka Knights) for the late 15th century, with a focus on the late War of the Roses – 1450 – 1480 would be their main focus.

These are Gensdarmes for the 1500-1530 era, the high time for the Italian wars (and several other conflicts), and probably the pinnacle of armour and splendour.

What the Perrys DID is make them in metal – for Wargames Foundry, some 25 years ago. Still one of the best lines around, but with only one barded horse for all the 20 different Gensdarmes. Eureka made some fine, though they come in true 28mm, so are undersized for most forces. TAG made some Spanish and Italian Gensdarmes for around 1500 and French for 1544, without that splendor (and a bit stiff in poses, I hate to say). Lead Adventure has two wonderfull Gensdarmes (with many head options) in their Bruegelburg style, on the large side – almost the size of GWs Imperial Knights that can also be used for Gensdarmes if accuracy is not that much of a concern. Tiger or Redoubt make some with sadly rough sculpting. There were others….

Still, these are unique in character, and probably (as usual for Steel Fist) peerless in sculpt and cast.
A high price for top quality.

These are lovely. Don't forget the Connoisseur Range (Bicorne). By today's standards they are simple designs. You either love Gilder or not, but I think they are marvellous. They are large figures, cleverly designed to take a wire shaft for the lance, and remind me of the Suren/Willie figures; Character if not detail. As a consequence they paint easily compared to the more detailed sculpts.
These new designs, along with the rest mentioned, are 'better' figures, but I still love the old Connoisseurs.
