You bought 'em and the game never took off, the guy you game with had to move, you lost interest or you painted 9 of them and it stalled there.

FOr whatever the reason, these troops were intended for the gaming table but never made it.

What do you have that falls in that category?

(Note if they were bought purely to paint, they don't count, this is only for figures you bought to game with)

Grignotage08 Mar 2017 4:19 p.m. PST

I have a nice pile of 28mm vikings. Painted and based. Still haven't hit the table.

As far as actually finished and ready to go, nothing that I can think of. I do have a large 1/72 WWII collection that I spent a lot of money on because my brother wanted to get back into WWII gaming; a handful of the figures have seen action 1 time in the last 3 or so years.

Most of the 28mm SF, 1798 Irish and Indian Mutiny, both in 15mm, and some H&R Napoleonics just finished. Hoping to change that this year for some or all.

I have about 70 painted Ral Partha Colonials that never saw the field.

Lucius08 Mar 2017 4:47 p.m. PST

A full 500 Old Glory Samurai, painted 20 years ago. I'm re-basing them now that I finally found a set of rules.

A matched Turk/Pole army, about 200/side. I was waiting for some Renaissance lists for Armati that never happened, and I moved on.

vtsaogames08 Mar 2017 4:50 p.m. PST

Less than 20 Napoleonic 28mm skirmishers, a bunch of 1/600 WWII planes. One of these days…

I suppose, on reflection, that I have some figures that I do not expect will ever see a gaming table:

•Some half-painted knights of Rohan from the 1970s;
•A pair of medieval knights on horseback from the same period;
•A pair of dinosaurs with scratch-built howdahs that could maybe fit two or three 15mm guys (and I abandoned 15mm years ago);
•A bunch of medieval peasants carrying bill hooks (the painted ones have appeared in various RPGs from D&D to Bushido);
•Some medieval Japanese figures that I couldn't resist buying 30 years ago;
•Airfix, Atlantic, and Revell boxes of 1/72 figures that I'll put on eBay when I need a few bucks;
•My Airfix 1/32 SAS (no potential enemies except the Airfix 1/32 Bundeswehr, and that seems very unlikely to say the least);
•Airfix 1/32 Bundeswehr ("Kein Kampf mehr mit den Engländern, bitte");
•And probably a few that I can't think of

Loads and loads! 13th century medievals, 28mm plastic Romans and Ancient Brits amongst many others!

45thdiv08 Mar 2017 5:31 p.m. PST

200 wild west figures.
600 Napoleonics
100 pulp fiction

The list goes on and on.

Sadly

As an army, my Jacobites have yet to see the tabletop.
However, individual figures and units have started in FIW games.
I'm working on them! Believe me!
My sedan chair racing project is waiting for me to start painting. The Old Glory Cossack one is the only finished one.

Most other projects have long been sold off. Colosseum chariots for instance. Painted but no arena was ever built, despite autocad plans.
My Irish Rebellion project had an appearance versus flying saucers in an odd but memorable game.
The less said about my Leonardo by GASLIGHT project the better. Landsknechts are more tedious to paint than Highlanders.

I'm not counting of course unpainted figures and units in active projects.

I bought a few small units for 15mm SciFi that have never seen the table, otherwise, everything I own has been gamed with at least 3 or 4 times…

Striker08 Mar 2017 5:58 p.m. PST

Most of them.

FusilierDan Supporting Member of TMP08 Mar 2017 6:15 p.m. PST

About 40% of my painted figures. Many are figures that I have painted while playing the game and by the time I had finished we moved on to another period. With the exception of about three periods I have gamed with most of the periods I have figures for.

Who asked this joker08 Mar 2017 6:48 p.m. PST

Romano-British that are painted and on unfinished bases. They are at least 15 years old. Still waiting for a fight.

Personal logo Tacitus Supporting Member of TMP08 Mar 2017 7:02 p.m. PST

About 30% of my painted forces are conscientious objectors (in particular a small Space Marine force). On the other hand, ALL of my pirates have see action.

DisasterWargamer Supporting Member of TMP08 Mar 2017 7:09 p.m. PST

All but a few units

Winston Smith08 Mar 2017 7:14 p.m. PST

A bunch of Gangs of New York figures have been primed. They're at least 7 years old. That's as far as they've gotten.
Any offers? grin

ordinarybass08 Mar 2017 7:39 p.m. PST

Lots of unpainted lead sitting around, but I think that almost every figure I've painted has seen the battlefield at least once. Playing mostly generic rulesets with armies I've built over time through various games ensures that nearly all my figs have seen at least a few battles.

There are possibly a few from my Void 1.1 junkers army and maybe a few others that have only seen one battle or possibly not any, but every thing I've painted has had a purpose for at least a short time…

…and hopefully will again!

Doug MSC Supporting Member of TMP08 Mar 2017 7:43 p.m. PST

All of my miniatures have tasted battle.

Narratio08 Mar 2017 7:51 p.m. PST

A bunch of 15mm city state Greek hoplites, I think it's 72 of them. Just sitting in a drawer, all painted up ready for call, but I don't do ancient anymore… saddening.

durecell08 Mar 2017 8:02 p.m. PST

Almost all my models. There is still hope left for them, I hope! Otherwise I might as well move over to the purely to paint group.

redbanner414508 Mar 2017 8:23 p.m. PST

My 15mm WWII partisans are still looking for a scenario. And my 30 Years War figures haven't been to war in almost that long.

Personal logo piper909 Supporting Member of TMP08 Mar 2017 9:15 p.m. PST

OMG. Way, way too many. Almost entirely 25/28mm. Fantasy, corps after corps. Scottish War of Independence (Scots and English, plus Welsh and Irish auxilliaries). Alamo -- armies for both sides PLUS a model of the mission. 20mm plastic Napoleonics, vast numbers of French, Anglo-Allies, Bavarians, Austrians. Hundreds and hundreds of Pulp and Gangster figures have yet to taste action. Darkest Africa. Renaissance. Vikings. Wild West. A few sci-fi units. A few hundred zombies. FIW Indians. A few hundred Heroclix repaints for Superhero games. D&D-type character and monster figures. A number of Jacobite units have yet to take the field. Irish War of Independence Irish and British and police and auxilliaries. Massive numbers of misc. civilians thru the ages. Interwar Foreign Legion. Moroccans. Zanzibaris. WWI Scots. Shiploads of pirates (plus ships), not just Caribbean but Arab and Chinese. To fight the pirates, Royal Navy, Americans, French, and Dutch. Entire divisions of Amazons. Celts by the hundreds, plus Germans, Picts, and Romans. Greeks and Persians, more hundreds and hundreds, probably over a thousand and a half of these alone. Gulp. My mind reels. I might have tens of thousands of unpainted or unused figures. My life is a waste!

Who asked this joker

Maybe it's time to let them go :-) 15 mm, old 25, or 28?

Fat Wally08 Mar 2017 11:20 p.m. PST

None. I don't merely paint and collect wargames figures, I play with them.

:-)

Made it a policy that I always play with new stuff at least once.

tkdguy09 Mar 2017 12:37 a.m. PST

Too many of them.

CATenWolde09 Mar 2017 12:55 a.m. PST

Hmm … going back in time …

1. I once bought a bunch of 28mm French Foreign Legion for no apparent reason – other than "Shiny!" – and eventually just sold them off. Ditto some 28mm Vikings.

2. I bought a bunch of the old Revell TYW plastics for a "shared" project that never got off the ground – sold those off too.

3. Back before the 15mm sci-fi craze really kicked off, I bought a bunch of figures to expand my faux Star Wars forces – those are still in the box.

4. A large box full of various 10mm Napoleonics from various lines, still waiting on complete lines …

5. Likewise, a big pile of 6mm Adler French Rev period French, waiting on opponents …

6. A large box of 10mm WSS, beautiful Pendraken figures, but I just haven't gotten around to them …

GildasFacit Sponsoring Member of TMP09 Mar 2017 3:06 a.m. PST

Apart from recently painted stuff the largest items are …

3mm 1940 – all the armour, artillery and transport done but not finished the infantry. A LOT of bases – 200 +

2mm Revolutionary French & Austrians – intended for some solo games. Done over a year ago but still haven't got round to playing. About 150 bases

6mm HotT – Some have seen the battlefield in a show game but most have been painted since that. Fun to paint but have no local players of HotT so may never see action. Possibly 50 or so bases never used.

Not unused but many have only seen action once or twice are my 20mm VBCW force. Group moved on to other things and never made much use of them.

Don't ask about the unpainted armies ….

Grelber09 Mar 2017 5:49 a.m. PST

Back in the olden days when nobody made Sub-Roman Britons, I converted a small army of them, as well as the Saxons to fight them. I have never got around to playing a game with them, but they are nicely packed up in boxes.

Col Durnford09 Mar 2017 6:44 a.m. PST

Based on some of the answers above, none.

That said, I do have units that have never seen dice rolled in pleasure.

I also have armies that have not been on the gaming table in 30 years, but that have had figures pass thru the painting table to completion.

As an example, my D&D dwarves were very active in the 1970's and I recently completed rebasing and adding two new units. No plans for them to deploy to the table in the near future.

Chuckaroobob09 Mar 2017 7:21 a.m. PST

About 50%. So many projects, and I paint so slowly…

leidang09 Mar 2017 1:24 p.m. PST

I've got the following that haven't seen the table top yet…

* 15mm Carthage & Rep. Rome about 1,500 figures total. Just completed and should see the table in the next few months sometime.
* 28mm Aliens and Marines – About 150 Figures total – Again newly completed but should see the table soon.
* 28mm Sci-Fi – Probably a couple hundred figures of various factions that Have just never seen the table
* 28mm Fantasy – Frostgrave got me painting a ton of fantasy figs but I decided the rules weren't for me after a couple games so I need to find rules that fit what I want.
* 1/1200 Galleys – A couple hundred painted up but just have never put them on the table
* 15mm WWII Poles – Again large army done but have never seen the table
* Probably another few thousand figs that haven't even been painted yet.

14Bore09 Mar 2017 2:22 p.m. PST

10% maybe less, I do rotate opponents

GarrisonMiniatures09 Mar 2017 3:04 p.m. PST

With me, lots, but most of them saw action with previous owners anyway.

14th NJ Vol09 Mar 2017 4:48 p.m. PST

All of mine have seen the table. Multiple times each and counting.

About ten times what I sold you…

I just keep buying, playing with a fraction of the purchases, and selling the rest. Even re-buying things I previously bought and sold, or even gave away!

Jack

15mm Rapid Fire Guards Armoured anyone?

Hang about – I've written that somewhere already…

Sharpe5210 Mar 2017 10:35 a.m. PST

Among many other things two fleets of Aeronef ships bought, well painted, ready to play, but…. I haven't found an opponent yet (Sob!)

All the unpainted ones. Only about 50 of the most recently painted; twenty-ish of those hit the felt tomorrow for game day.
