All, Moving on to my next set of Modern troops, I'd previously completed a French force in Woodland camo, ready for worldwide deployment. Here are their counterparts, prepared for action in the more hot and dusty locales. The vast majority of this force is from QRF, though there are a few Peter Pig guys thrown in at the end (because they're wearing berets, and I wanted some guys wearing berets).
The whole force, a platoon, of thirty-two men from seven different QRF packs (Leaders, Riflemen firing, Riflemen moving, Riflemen with FELIN, AT4s, SAWs, and Snipers) and one Peter Pig pack. I painted them with a bit of variation: the base uniform, if you will, is the French desert camo uniform with desert camo helmet cover and desert boots. But looking at images online, I found quite a few photos of places such as Mali and Afghanistan, that showed French troops with Woodland camo blouses (with desert camo trousers), Woodland camo helmet covers, helmets without helmet covers, and black boots. So I mixed all of that in quite liberally to give the troops that 'lived in' look. Of course, they all get my standard desert basing.
A cool pose, trooper standing by with FAMAS, AT-4 slung over one shoulder. The guy on left has woodland cammie blouse over desert trousers, the guy on right has full desert uniform. To see more pics, please check the blog at: linkMore to follow. V/R, Jack |

Looks good. I tend to prefer square/rectangular bases to better define arc of fire on the table top. JAS |

Thanks man! I use rectangular bases for multi-based troops for that reason, but I haven't run into it as an issue in skirmish gaming. For my skirmish gaming the arc is 180; he's either looking at me, or he's not ;) V/R, Jack |

Great job.Now go get those Tuaregs. |

Thanks Jurgenation! I'm not going to shell out time and money for Tuaregs though; maybe just paint some blue on my Rebel Minis' insurgents? ;) V/R, Jack |

They look ready to kick arse Jack. Nice job. |

Thanks man. I'm pondering how to get them on the table ASAP. Since I seem to be hitting a mental block on ending Dragon Forge, I may just pencil whip it. You know, declare victory and go home ;) Then move onto something else, like using these guys! Though I may carry out Ivan's recommendation (on a separate thread), which was to have a bigger fight using locals (Malaysian, in this case) to take down the bad guy. V/R, Jack |

Jack, Those look great. I usually like PP figures better than QRF; what is your take. QRF faces are hard for me to paint and lack detail. Like the range of QRF vehicles though. You of course, are going to make these guys FFL right? Joe |
Just Jack | 15 Mar 2017 6:27 p.m. PST |
Joe, Thanks man. I'd like to play them as FFL, but honestly, they're probably sooner destined to be Cubans deployed to some fictional hellhole, continuing my Cuba Libre saga. The QRF troops can be a little soft on detail in places, but they're cheap and quick to get, and they've got some good gear and poses with some real character, so I like them just fine, and can't wait to get them on the table.
