All,
There is something about the style of these that appeals to me. Has anyone painted any? What are they like in the flesh? Are they one piece castings?

Their Aztecs are huge, like 20mm. I don't have any other figures from them.

They are quite large figures, I find them a little short in the leg but painted up they are fine.

Good selection of painted figures on this site

The few I have require glue for shields and spears only.

That site seems to show only 25/28mm, I am looking at the ones advetised as 15mm.

If have lots of these. very "cartoony" but they are easy to paint and look really good on the table.

If we're discussing solely the ancients/dark ages/medieval ranges the comments above apply, but the colonials at least were sculpted by a different designer who'd previously worked for Minifigs, and are thus closer in style to that manufacturer's figures – as may be others I'm not aware of.

The Celts are not the same cartoony style. They are pretty nice figures – I bought some after seeing some used. They are pretty big – a touch bigger than Xyston's, though the shields are a similar size and I think that would make the height less significant.
I have a feeling the Republican Romans may be the same style as the Celts. IIRC, Allen Curtis (late of this parish) really rated these Romans.

The Style of the Aztecs reminds me of the Aztecs' own pictures so seemed fitting.
