Ok, so I've got a bunch of 28mm plastic 1809 french. I could sell them but also do something with them. Problem is I'm on a tight bugget, I am cheap and I promised myself I'd not buy more toys except from the 2-3 priority projects – and this is not one of them. Bottom line is, can I paint half of these 1809 French in a uniform of an enemy of France? Were there French emenies wearing simil-french uniforms? |

Well, if you are tired of doing French troops, strictly speaking, you have all the Swiss and other foreign regiments in French service (Piedmont Legion, Irish Legion, Vistula Legion, etc.), many of which wore uniforms of a different color. Then there are all the foreign allied contingents who wore French style uniforms, such as Nassau, Kingdom of Italy, Naples, Westphalia, Berg. None of France's big enemies had uniforms that could readily be taken for French, but most of Napoleon's German allies turned on him in 1813-14, so there you have a bunch of possibilities if you want troops that could fight against the French. |

You could even paint some as Santa Anna's Mexican army at the Alamo, FWIW. |

Many Spanish units (both sides) wore French-style uniforms. |
