Recently, I've had to trim the subject lines of quite a few new posts. They weren't that long, but they were, apparently, too long for TMP. Shortening them really made them less descriptive of the posts. How about enabling longer titles on TMP?

Attributed to Mark Twain, Lincoln and Pascal:
"I am sorry I wrote such a long letter. I didn't have time to write a short one."
Or, brevity is the soul of wit.

Totally d'accord…

Twain? Thief!

Yes, said, originally, by Blaise Pascal, The Provincial Letters in 1657.

Having space to write longer titles would be a benefit to people that cannot seem to write shorter posts in the allotted space that is provided for them to write their post in while properly conveying the idea that they wish to convey in the message that they are attempting to get across to the readers who would be interested in reading that very post in the space provided for just such a reason.

No, just no.

Hardly a priority I would think?

…but.probably a minute's work if Bill decides thats what he wants to do

But tinkering with The Code will let The Bug escape again – better to leave things as they are, just in case.

Longer subject lines should enable greater specificity to posts' contents.

Some people can't even right a good title for their post now. I doubt more characters would help them.

Longer titles enable longer titles.

Thought enables increased specificity and clarity.

Skeptic07 Mar 2017 11:22 a.m. PST

@etotheipi: Perhaps, but when the thought entails a few specific polysyllabic terms…?

dantheman09 Mar 2017 1:48 p.m. PST

Nope. Keep,t short.

Ha ha ha, then people may continue to be surprised to find posts that are quite unlike what their subject lines may suggest, while posters who are looking for specific answers may not reach those who could provide them…
