It's a good day to DIE HARD at Cold Wars 2017

picture

I have created the fifteenth Guidebook App for an HMGS event, Cold Wars 2017

You may find an overview and download links here: link

Please help yourselves. It runs on IOS, Windows (computers), smart phones and android (tablets and phones). The link above will go over major features.

Thanks for your time, and I will see you at the convention.

Follow on note: We had some problems posting events to the "MY SCHEDULE" portion.. I had to turn on the check in option. Yeah, that's new. Anyway, it's fixed. Enjoy!

Thanks for doing this Walt, it is always useful.

Moe the Great02 Mar 2017 8:42 a.m. PST

Thanks Walt.

It seems lite on games… I didn't see a few I saw on the PEL.

Xintao02 Mar 2017 11:37 a.m. PST

Thanks Walt.

Poniatowski02 Mar 2017 12:43 p.m. PST

Awesome Walt! I just downloaded CW and it is soooo dang easy to use!!!

I have to be honest… this year at CW the events seemed perfectly geared to all of the games I like….. I will be very busy this show!!!

WaltOHara02 Mar 2017 12:57 p.m. PST

The Events spreadsheet I received from Dan earlier this week had 195 games listed on it. That's not including Tournaments. I just verified my data loader script against it, yep.. 195. Maybe there was some cancellations?

Walt

Moe the Great02 Mar 2017 4:58 p.m. PST

I know my game wasn't canceled… and it's not in there..

WaltOHara02 Mar 2017 7:56 p.m. PST

Perhaps you could talk to Dan Murawski? I can send you the sheet I got earlier in the week. I can add more but I need to have the data (just the stuff that hasn't been entered already).

WaltOHara03 Mar 2017 8:51 a.m. PST

NOTICE. I just spoke with Dan and the file he sent me earlier in the week was missing several games. I'm going to nuke the events and restart this with the most current information I can get as soon as he fixes the table numbers for me.

Bottom Line, stand by, it will update for you.

I've not been to a con in years but when I did go your guidebook apps were most welcome. So thanks for putting these together!

Moe the Great03 Mar 2017 8:23 p.m. PST

Thanks for checking Walt.

WaltOHara03 Mar 2017 8:50 p.m. PST

No worries, Moe. I don't want to waste all that time for something that isn't helpful.

WaltOHara09 Mar 2017 6:00 p.m. PST

UPDATE on guidebook:
Dan sent me a large file which represented 166 games that were not present in the previous mix. I have updated guidebook accordingly and published the update. The only thing yet to do is tournaments.

Note, much of this data has come to me without table locations-- so some have them and some don't. I apologize for that, a guidebook is only as good as the data that made it.

Otherwise, it's not a bad effort. I'll be sorting by period as soon as I figure out what a consolidated list (from several sources) looks like.

You can get the update just by opening up guidebook near a wirless signal.

Is this info going to end up on the convention website or is that an obsolete source for info about the convention?

Xintao09 Mar 2017 8:15 p.m. PST

Thanks for the all the work, Dan and Walt.

47Ronin10 Mar 2017 10:34 a.m. PST

Thanks, Walt and Dan.

Walt, I look forward to your breakdown of games by period.

I noticed that the Gnomes made a late charge and were added to the updated PEL. Glad to see it. I was worried about them for a while.

Enjoy the games. Hope to see you there.

zoneofcontrol:

I do the guidebook thing as a volunteer effort, except for FALL IN. Convention directors (with the exception of Dan M) consider it a nice to have, but not a requirement. I think GB is fairly essential myself, but a commercial license costs money that HMGS has been somewhat reluctant to spend in the past.

So, no, it's not official, so don't look for it on the website.

zoneofcontrol10 Mar 2017 7:43 p.m. PST

Thanks Walt. I have followed your many posts over the years and appreciate what you do as each year I get to two of the three shows they put on.

It is just sad to see all that info missing from the official site of the organization. Communications have gotten better recently with some BOD and others posting here again. It is just odd to get this info from 3rd party sites while the home site has stuff that is outdated or missing entirely.

WaltOHara11 Mar 2017 11:44 p.m. PST

Everyone: Finished tournaments tonight (they are last and most painful usually).

The guidebook is as good as I can make it with the information I have received. :-)

Walt

PS: Zoneofcontrol -- I suppose so. I don't know if we have to be "official" with this or not. Anyone can do it, it certainly doesn't have to be me. As long as I maintain amiable relationships with the guys working the cons (and I usually do), I usually get all the information I need to make things accurate, as much as anyone can. For the time being, Guidebook (the paired down version we use) is free. If it were "official", well, a volunteer will still do it no matter what. I don't mind doing the work because frankly, HMGS needs to do stuff like this. We're in the 21st century. I almost never crack a printed guide when I'm at a con because guidebook solves that problem for me. I like having that convenience.

Walt

Poniatowski13 Mar 2017 8:51 a.m. PST

To all.. there are also 2 Ironclad events that did not make the program or Guidebook…. they will be listed on site.

thxs,
d

WaltOHara13 Mar 2017 12:03 p.m. PST

Dan send them to me and I can make an update happen before the show. I'll be updating anyway, Scott just sent me the new vendor listing.

Does a Guidebook have a snow removal feature?

zoneofcontrol14 Mar 2017 6:28 a.m. PST

"Does a Guidebook have a snow removal feature?"

That sounds like a Game of Thrones question.
