I'm looking for a T34 for skirmish gaming, what would be the best all around useful version for late 1942 to late 1943?

Just any T34/76 would do the trick, lots of choices out there.

If you don't mind diecast 1:50 scale, you can get Solido/Verem on eBay, and QuarterKit in France has a Gas.o.line/Solido kit for only 11 Euro.

Irrespective of scale, you'll be okay with any version of the T-34 except for the 1944 version with the upgunned 85mm turret, which came after the timeframe you specified.

There's also a 1943 variant of the T-34/76 with a redesigned turret which wasn't around before 1943:

The model with the two hatch turret but without the commander's cupola would be right for the time period you specify.

With Gaming Models they offer four versions of what you are looking for.
