Some of you might know I'm building 2 battle tables for Cold Wars.

My friends and I, are building a 6x12 table for the Battle of Eylau and I am also building a 4x10 table for running Frostgrave. All of this going on in my not huge basement. Thankfully I have control of about 90% of the basement.

More like banished to the basement, but that's another topic.

This is not a normal, build from the ground up blog post, like Eylau, which is just built for the one battle. My Frostgrave terrain is modular to an extent and I tweak the build for each convention.

Never the same layout twice. I'm using about 60-70% of stuff I've already made. Updating some of it. Adding new pieces and adding a board section, The Harbor.

So these posts will be more random and less sequencial than the Eylau posts. So here we go.

picture

1/2 inch foam from Lowes, 4x8 sheets. Really catches the wind in a parking lot.

Raising my old board sections to allow for harbor.

Stone quay for harbor carved from pink insulation.

The quay will be the join to the other board sections.

Testing out ship size and "iced over harbor"

Water color. 95% of the board will be ice, but some water shows through the cracks.

Painting up the join and quay.

As always more pics and write up my blog:

Amazing stuff! Can't wait to see more progress on this.

Where is the ship from? Loves the biz

This is awkward, but "I admire your shelves" :-)

And the rest looks great, did you distress the foam for the stone blocks of the quay at all before painting? They look more textured than straight foam.

War Panda, I got the ship off ebay, 90% sure it's Megablocks. It's not the ship I'm going to use. I'm working on getting ships from Blood and Plunder, now that their Kickstarter is complete. I'm sorry I missed that KS.

Boy Wonder, thanks…I think, lol. Yes the foam is distressed. I cut or score the blocks out. Then I take a ball tin foil and roll it around on the foam hard. It makes all sorts of dents in a random pattern.

Also, I pick out blocks randomly using an X-acto, re-cut the pattern deep around the block. Then using the blunt end of the X-acto, I mash the foam down of a single block. I do this all over one block at a time. Really gives an old uneven stone work look to the foam. Then 4 layers of dry brushing and I call it a day.

Thanks! And the shelving comment was meant in a good way, the first thing to catch my eye in the pics were all the shelves.

Xintao, I always love your Frostgrave stuff and this is no exception.

The ship is actually a Playmobil pirate ship, maybe vintage 2004-2006. We've got the same boat in the basement from our kid's pirate phase.

Hi Ken, I went back through my ebay purchase history. It listed as Mega Block Captain Cutlass Stormstalker.
