I don't have v2, & I probably won't buy it, unless I can find it good & cheap! That said, I know about the change in Officers, meaning you can, depending on rank & points cost have an Officer who can use his influence to order others within his Command Distance to move, hence, speeding up the game. All good, IMHO. My question is this: Say a Captain, can influence 3 other units within 12" of himself. (I know this may not be "correct" ie- a Captain, 3 units, 12 inches, just bear with me) can one of the units he activates be a, say, Lt. who can influence 2 more units within HIS(the Lieutenant's) range? Thereby, getting MORE units to move in one turn? I ask because I'm gonna put on a WW1 BA game @ H-Con & I'd like to move the game on as fast as possible. BTW, this will be a mash-up of(mostly)BAv1, BAv2,(a few of these improvements) & probably a few house rules! Also I'm gonna be using GAJO's WW1 variant rules. Thanks in advance! Peter |

Just reading the rule, it does not say you can't do that. I guess no one thought about it before. |

Wargamer Blue, Thanks for that. I always seem to come up with something that ain't covered in the rules! I kinda like that tho! One question, does it seem RIGHT to YOU? Mind you, I would ONLY allow the higher ranking officer to do this, not the other way around. Thanks again for the reply. If you read or hear anything else, I would appreciate you getting back to me! Yes, you can 'chain command'. However, it is fraught with peril. You have to keep your officers rather close together. And you have to pay for them, so there can't really be a lot of officers around, giving each other orders. A sniper can easily break this chain. This is really bad if your strategy revolved around the 'chain command' effect. Plus, after you have moved all of your troops, the other side gets to move all of his with having to rely on a chain of officers. Keeping the chain intact is difficult. You order the officer, and before he moves, you assign the orders to other units/ officers. Where the officers really come in handy is allowing closer infantry/tank co-ordination. A Lt can order a tank and an infantry unit to move, allowing the infantry to better take cover behind the tank. I like the rule, having never played BA1. |

Thanks & I understand what you are saying d88! BUT, since this will be a convention game, I'm just looking into ways to keep it moving & everyone involved. I do completely see you would need to keep the officers semi close, or within Command range, rather. BUT, it IS WW1, and there ain't a lot of cover to start with, so there is that… The only way to get to the enemy is to cross NML, so if you can all rush together, that may be for the better. So the "Chain of Command" may only be needed for a short while anyway! This really won't be a "points" game either. Meaning, I'll set the units up for all, it may not be equal. But it will be fun & probably, pretty fair! We have playtested a smaller version several times & had very good games with both sides winning at least once! Thanks for you input, Sir! Peter |
