This is just a follow up to my winter terrain posts. A bit redundant to what I'm already doing, but I wanted to just add one tip in case anyone is hesitant or doubting if Christmas village trees look convincing for wargaming tables.
Personally I think they look fine just as they are when you buy them.
However, I realized I think one of the secrets that the makers of model railroad and wargaming trees have when selling you gaming trees for five times the price of a Walmart Xmas tree.
They simply have more snow flock on them! Essentially what Walmart Xmas village trees are, are gaming trees from the same Chinese factories as model railroad trees but with a cheaper snow on them, that Santa Claus decorative prop-type snow that isn't really adhered to the tree and falls off after a time. Model railroading trees have permanent flock, which is what they charge for. But from what I see, structurally these trees are NO different in quality or manufacture.
I took all of my Walmart trees and in a matter of a minute, sprayed them all with spray adhesive, and liberally shook some Woodland Scenics snow flock over them and presto done!
This is probably an obvious thing to many of you, and you've likely already done this. But it's still worth showing for those might not have.
This shows how much better they look, it's a true transformation:
