How side do you make your ACW roads in 15mm and 25/28mm? Do you make your bridges the same width or narrower?

What type of bridges do you use for the ACW, stone or wooden? How long do you prefer?

Do you prefer your earthworks to have artillery embrasures or not?

TIA,
Dave

25/28mm, with bridges the same size, made of both stone and wood.

Although I rarely use earthworks, I would prefer they have artillery embrasures.

My computer can't spell:

it should read how WIDE, i.e. what width do you prefer your roads, river, and bridges in the various scales?

In 28mm I like small roads 2" wide. If it is a major road, then 4" might be used. I use the same width for bridges. Most of my games use 2" roads.

25/28mm 3" wide roads and bridges to accommodate artillery bases. Generally there were more wood and pontoon bridges. A lot fewer stone.

My 15mm roads are 1 inch wide. I made them myself. I use both stone and wood bridges. They are both 1 inch wide, and long enough to span my 1/2" creeks. I made the wooden bridges, but my stone bridges are resin.

I also made my own earthworks. They do not have artillery embrasures.

Thanks for the responses. There are so many rule sets and many use varing base sizes that you aren't sure what width to make your terrain so it looks good with respect to the bases. I am just trying to get a general idea.

I make roads wide enough to accomodate whatever base size I am using. Thus, for V&B, they are 3" wide.

For Impetus (and the ACW variant I've been working on) they will be 120mm wide, as I play with 28mm scale minis.

Bridges are either wood or stone, depending upon the real ones am modeling. They also need to be at least 1 base width wide.

Earthworks should be deep enough for one base to fit in. That means 3" for V&B and 60mm for Impetus, etc.

Bridges – ideally in pieces so we can make them fit our toys. If you don't mind checking out a competitor, see what Baueda has been releasing – their Roman pontoon bridge is great but they have another modular bridge where certain sections can double as piers.

Stone, brick, wood, all of value. Don't need another covered bridge – looks nice but otherwise impractical. For me, always 15 mm.

Roads – I make my own, rivers, ditto going forward.

The roads that I use most often with 15mm (and 6mm) figures are about an inch wide. My rivers are resin with raised banks. So, for me to buy a bridge, the bridge must have a good clearance, in order to allow for the banks on the rivers. A lot of the bridges that I see are obviously designed to be used with completely flat rivers (cardboard?). My advice would be to try and maximize the number of potential buyers of your products by thinking through how people will actually want to use them.

When you release the products, it is also helpful if you provide relevant information, such as the vertical and horizontal clearance of bridges and the internal dimensions of earthworks. Some folk may ask you for this information, but, if it is there to see on the website, that has to help.

Coming late to this thread, but that's because my attention was just drawn to it. grin

My ancients are generally all 40mm wide and my horse & musket troops are 1" (25mm) wide. I prefer my roads to be 1" wide with some banking on either side; my rivers are a wibbly average of 1-2" wide; and I've been looking forever for bridges that are just over an inch wide between the rails, but only recently found any.

I make revetments and fortifications by hand (part of the fun of the hobby), so my opinions about them probably don't matter to others much.
