Bolt Action Miniatures/Warlord Games produce an attractive BEF set British 18/25 pdr gun with a Guy Ant truck tow. Was the British 18/25 per gun capable of being used 'portee' style on the back of a pre-1939 British lorry? The Guy Ant is a post-1938 vehicle not suitable for VBCW, as is the Matador truck, which is photographed carrying the later-25 pdr on its back and was adapted for other roles including carrying a 25-pounder gun. I'm looking for a lorry suitable and capable of being used as a gun platform for an 18 or 18/25 pdr, for VBCW. Thanks.

The Bedford WT (1933) looks like it could accommodate the 18/25 pounder: link The mkII on the mkI carriage's weight is listed as 3,600 lbs, around 1.5 tons; the WT was rated at 3, so that's plenty for carrying ammo and crew as well. Looks like the Layland Hippo (1935) would also fill the bill:

Also look at the lorry beds used for 4" naval Guns in 1940 as stopgap mobile artillery. |

Useful responses, thank you. An alternative I guess, is to stick plastic card around an equivilant but later truck as armour and do it that way. |
