Dear all, I need to modify some miniatures (16) for a project and would like to know if there's a source in Spain where I can buy separate heads? Muchas gracias por adelantado. |

I can't answer your question, but it would be helpful to know what type of heads you are looking for. |

You're right 79, Bare heads or with kepi or ACW forage cap. |

All The King's Men in the U.S.A. offeres a wide variety of separate heads in 54mm for the ACW at quite reasonable prices. I am uncertain, however, of how expensive postage to Spain might be.
I've dealt with the proprietor, Ken Cliffe, a number of times -- he is very reliable and accommodating. link |

I already contact him , sadly the postage time are quite long, but I agree Ken is a very kind person. |

I also look Historex France online shop, but the posting where too high for a few set of heads. With more time to finish the project I would buy to ATKM. |

You could also look for inexpensive plastic 54mm ACW figures like those produced by IMEX, BMC, Marx, Expeditionary Force, and Toy Soldiers of San Diego, and simply cut the heads off with an X-Acto knife for use in your project. |

That's what I thought too dBerczerk, But the only boxes I could find in the shops here(Madrid), where Imex confederate cavalry and artillery not enough kepi… and not so cheap to let a bunch beheaded minis in a box, but maybe I will have to do it at the end… |

Have you thought of just making the kepis from modelling putty? This is one of the easiest headgears to do – because the actual shapes vary so much. If the head has a brimmed hat, you have the crown as a basis, and the front of the brim cam be cut to make the peak. For just 16 this must the the simplest and cheapest way to go! |

Hi Mike , Minds connect, I wanted your insight on that matter. Yes I want to convert AIP FFL to 1870 french infantrymen, and yes I thought to model the kepis with green stuff. The DIY road will give a more campaign look. My query for you is the following: What are the plastic soldier brands are compatible with AIP? Imex look slimier, I'm afraid to buy a full box for nothing. Thanks ! |

Oops – missed this one. You will have moved on by now but…AIP heads are quite big. Some Imex will work, some will be a little small. Ditto the ScaleLink WWI French heads – lovely choice but smaller than AIP. For FFL into 1870 French, the basis of the kepi is already there – just cut down the crown and add some modelling putty. |

Hi Mike, I keep on with crazy FPW project in 54mm ! I will probably order to ATKM some heads. I focused my efforts for the french side, to get some Tirailleurs Algériens (AIP Zouave set) and some Garde Mobiles/Nationaux from the AIP Egyptian infantry one of their most versatile and useful sets. The issue with the AIP FFL, is that you've got to remove the havelock and almost re-sculpt the back of the head of the figures. A pity as regarding their equipment it's almost identical. I even try to sculpt a head from scratch, too ugly and time consuming of course :D |
