"Foam body armor? Even armor-piercing bullets cannot get through this foam.

And the foam doesn't just stop bullets. It destroys them…this foam decimates bullets into dust.

North Carolina State University Professor Afsaneh Rabiei led the team that created the amazing foam.

(Good grief…..Fox News…..sets the bar for 7yr olds in TV presentations.)

On the merits of the composite foam armour, an interesting method for lightening the weight and improvements in protection…..

From the limited information supplied, it seems the wearer would look like the Michelin Tyreman = 20mm (3/4 inch) RIGID panels. Oh and from personal experience with rigid plate vests, d@mned uncomfortable to wear.

Very interesting.

Have to see how well it can be put into use.

As noted above the rigidity and thickness of the composite material might limit its applications, but I can imagine several uses myself.

Depending on how heavy it is, I could see it replacing steel in armored cars and MRAPs. And maybe even tracked vehicles.

I can see it being used as part of a composite, layered with conventional steel or aluminium to increase protection weight for weight……it does appear to be 'cratered' by the bullet strikes?
