… at its amusement park so that kids have ‘a real building to storm'. "What happens when you combine a military targeting the next generation of soldiers and the sacred memory of World War II in Russia? "We're building a Reichstag in Patriot Park," Sergei Shoigu, Russia's defense minister, announced during a parliamentary address Wednesday. "Not to full size, but so our 'youth army soldiers' can storm not just any building, but a concrete place." A quick rundown of terms. Patriot Park is the Russian army's amusement park (sometimes called "military Disneyland"), which opened last year near Moscow. The "youth army" is a network of youth groups across Russia created by the military to instill patriotism in children and teach them military skills, like how to assemble and disassemble an automatic rifle. And the Reichstag is the neo-Baroque building in Berlin that housed parliament under the German empire and the Weimar Republic. And it has been the seat of the German parliament since 1999…"

Why did no one tell me there was a "military Disneyland" when I was a child? – Mickey Mouse left me cold but this…Probably wasn't there in the 70's… |

And who would find teaching Russian kids to storm German buildings with automatic weapons threatening? |

Patriot park is great. They moved 1/3 of Kubinka tanks there plus all the recent gear. It is expending all the time. Soon there will be places where ine can shoot weapons. And yes " historical" kids games. And yes they want them to keep some spine and be rightly proud of their history. We in the west, hardly can feel the trauma and abyssal catastrophe ww2 was in Russia. Where do you visit towns and villages where 4-5th of the men died? Or even 3/4 th of the overal population? No wonder they still react differently. Well well maybe wargames for us too, some day. At least there was some attempt at boardgames. Nearby one can go riding in T35 and T55 and even "play Russian soldier" in gear for a day of efforts.. Not sure of the fun though of that one. Next year if you guys want to go, let me know. It is a must. |
