Like many gamers I have purchased a number of battle mats over the years. I have tried terrain tiles and Geo-hex but ultimately I like the ease and look of placing a cloth over hills and then laying on terrain.

Having said that, I was never entirely happy with the way the mats draped over the hills. Most were a little too stiff to drape without creating unsightly folds. Even with extensive pinning, the folds couldn't be entirely avoided.

I had seen ads for Cigar Box Battle Mat and read a couple of reviews. I liked what I saw but I couldn't find a clear pic showing how it draped nor was it addressed in the reviews. Anyway, after much humming and hawing I decided to order one of their new "Plush" mats and I am delighted I did.

The surface of the mat is a very realistic and varied coloured grasslands made with close cropped faux fur. It draped perfectly over my Hexon and Terrain Guy hills and our 15mm figures had no difficulty standing on it. I liked it so much I ordered another after our first game.

This is a product I can't recommend enough. Very reasonably priced, and very fast and efficient service. I received my mat in Edmonton, Canada within two weeks of ordering.

Thanks for the review Alci! I'd been considering getting one of the plush mats and you have pushed me over the edge. ;-)

I own 4 of their mats. I think they're fabulous looking and fit nicely over hills.

Will there be any for sale at Cold Wars, or any games using them?

WarWizard, we will be selling the Cigar Box Mats at Cold Wars as usual. I am sure there will be plenty in use around the show.

Will you have the plush mats in stock? Hope you bring enough…..:)

BTCTerrainman Supporting Member of TMP22 Feb 2017 3:21 p.m. PST

Puddinhead Johnson: Yes we will have some in stock. I do not have a lot of control over the mats we are provided to sell for them. Unfortunately you can never truly estimate what mats/products will be in demand for any particular show. As a vendor we are often surprised at what sells and what does not at a particular show. You will always end up short on something you did not expect to sell and flush with product that you expected to be in demand.

We will have over 114 mats at the show with varying quantities and types. With that said, hopefully we have enough of what you are looking for. 8-)

I sold my 3 non plush mats from CB and bought the greenland, dessert and winter plush mats. I really like the first 2, and the third is nice but is a cream coloured rather then white which was a little troubling. It is not the same colour as the non-plush winter scrubland mat.

I emailed and got an immediate response with an offer to return but I am still thinking about it.

Delivery time on the Cigar Box website says 3-4 weeks. If I'm in a neighboring state should I still expect that long a wait? Whats been your experience with their mail order?

They're not made on demand are they?

So the mats drape nicely over the hills with no "bunching" up? I think that might make me buy one.

Melun121 Mar 2017 9:51 a.m. PST

I really like what I see, could you post their website I would like to order.

Can anyone recommend which of their mats would be best for doing 1812 Borodino in 15mm scale?
