Great work. If my Russians would I have looked that good, I never would have sold them.

They look good. The yellows are very strong, something I struggle with

Very nice!

Marc, one of the secrets I have learned when painting yellow is to paint either gold or bronze first and then paint it yellow. Hasn't failed me yet.

I like the "paint gold" tip so will try that. Thanks

Would love to know how Mateus does it. But then I am so impressed with his work AND output I'd love to know he does it all

Marc, when painting yellow, I first choose a base yellow that is a bit dark, so that I have room to work on highlighting, using lighter shades of yellow.

I use Citadel Averland Sunset as my base color, then wash it with Citadel Reikland Fleshshade, and finally, highlight with a light yellow, such as Citadel Yriel Yellow.

Of course, other brands offer similar substitutes for yellow colors. However, finding a good wash to work on yellow might be tricky. The ones I've found to work are the one I mentioned, and, to a lesser degree, the Citadel Seraphim Sephia.

If working on a large surface of yellow, I add a first layer of highlight in the base color (averland sunset) before doing the highlighting with Yriel Yellow. This is because on large surfaces, a blatant contrast of colors is undesirable, it makes the borders between layers too noticeable, so you might want to create a "transitioning area" with the base color after wash.

Hope this helps!

The one problem these figures have is the way the pelisses hang onto the back. It's part of the problem of separate parts for the pelisses.

I've found that if you ignore the pins and holes provided, and rout out the inside of the shoulder of the pelisse, and then also carve off some of the figure's left shoulder, and use 2-part epoxy, you can get a more traditional look. However, this process made me wonder what the pelisse would really look like on the battlefield. Riding at a canter or faster, it may very well have slipped off the shoulder and onto the back, choking the wearer.

This of course assumes that ANYONE EVER rode into battle wearing the pelisse over the shoulder, as on parade. As so many others – I don't really care. Give my guys full dress or why bother.

I also appreciate the blue overalls. They maybe should be grey, but they look much better colored as the breeches would be on these Aktyrski Hussars.
